17YO DD diagnosed with PCOS

Just after some advice. I have posted previously as I suspected a hormonal imbalance.

She has been diagnosed with PCOS and advised to go on Yasmin.

My concern is how quickly she’s put on weight. She’s always been tiny and is very active but has put on about a stone in a few months despite eating well and doing lots of exercause. If this continues she’ll be obese in a matter of months. At just over 5 foot it shows really quickly too.

Any advice or supplement suggestions or just a bit of a hand hold as I don’t know what to do.

Is she concerned? Has it helped her symptoms?

I don’t know what sort of supplements you’re meaning, but much of the weight gain with hormonal contraception is fluid retention and/or can be temporary. If she’s not overeating and is active, it’s unlikely that she’ll keep gaining weight. I don’t think you need to do anything unless she is concerned or it continues and then she can talk to a doctor and see what they say.

Is the weight from the PCOS or since starting Yasmin?
I suspect my DD16 has PCOS. She is waiting scans. It's been hard knowing how to navigate sudden weight gain with a teen girl and not damage her self esteem further. We have the added complication of another health condition.
There are some good books out there .I recommend Hack your Hormones by Davina Taylor. It's funny and easy to read with some doable and effective 'hacks' which help manage this.If she won't read it it would still be helpful for you to read.

The weight gain is PCOS. She hasn’t started Yasmin yet.

Pcos is rampant in the girls and women in my family. Low carb high fat diets work a treat for us and help us to stabilise our weight and reduce symptoms. Meat, eggs, veg and fruit. Nuts, natural or Greek yogurt and dark chocolate within sensible limits. Keep carbs to below 60g while trying to lose weight. And then 90-110g for maintenance. No grains, no sugar, no bread/cake/sweets.

unfortunately in my family the hormone contraceptives don’t really work. We are all very sensitive to progesterone and my dd had the implant at the gps suggestion and was suicidal within 4 weeks and tried to cut out out of her own arm. I didn’t fare much better when I was younger myself. The injection didn’t work, the pill didn’t work and sent me and my dds crazy. Bit a lchf diet really seems to help the root problem instead of just hiding the symptoms.
