Sex before coil fitting

I didn't even think about this for some reason 🤦‍♀️
Have been replacing Mirenas for about a decade and have a new replacement appointment today.
Had sex yesterday, should I reschedule? Now I look it up and it suggests abstaining for 7 days, anyone know how necessary that is? Feel like an idiot but I've waited so long for this appointment 🤦‍♀️

Is the abstaining for 7 days thing more about being sure women aren’t going to fall pregnant from unprotected sex a few days before the mirena was put in?

So if you’re replacing it wouldn’t matter? I’d keep the appointment and just ask your Dr/nurse/midwife who is doing the replacement about it.

The nurse who’s replacing mine explained that if for some reason they are able to remove the old one but not put the new one in, there could be a risk of pregnancy.

That would make sense, so technically it shouldn't be a problem? It could be a problem if they can't replace it for any reason I guess... Then I'd have to have the morning after pill maybe? Oh I'm so annoyed at myself

But don’t panic, they can probably cover that risk with oral progesterone pills (like the mini pill/cezarette) if necessary.

Oh really? That's interesting! I'm also on HRT so have progesterone on top of the coil if that makes any difference. And I'm perimenopausal with extensive endometriosis which would maybe lessen the odds. Although as my husband pointed out we do already have one miracle baby 🤦‍♀️

I’m not a Dr, I just know that going from cezarette to the hormonal coil meant I didn’t have to worry about barrier protection for the first few days after the coil insertion - since it was the same hormones I was still protected. But it might depend on the exact hormones used and their dosages and stuff so definitely tell them at your appointment and let them work out what needs to happen if they can’t put another coil in straight away.

Damn! If anyone else is wondering about this, the hospital wouldn't do it and have had to reschedule. Never mind!
