Thickened womb lining

I Have suffered with awful periods for the last couple of years, super heavy, clots, etc. I went for a internal scan and the report has stated that I have a thickened lining of 19mm and a possible polyp. I have been referred to gynaecology but it’s not until February. I am 40 soon and pretty sure I’m entering perimenopause. Has anyone had any experience of this? I have googled and there’s lots of different information some not so good, I am worried incase it is anything bad and I’m waiting until February to be seen. Thanks

If you’re postmenopausal you would likely be on a two week wait pathway to be seen, however at 40 and given that are still having periods it is not generally seen as urgent. 10% of postmenopausal bleeds turn out to be cancer apparently. In light of your age and because you’re still having periods, a February gynaecology appointment is about right I would say. Do go to your GP though if you have concerns of course.

When you know who you are referred to, you can contact their secretary and explain you are very keen to make use of any short notice or cancellation appointments that arise and make sure you give contact details.

In the meantime, what is is happening about managing the bleeding? Have you had bloods checked for iron deficiency and clotting? Are you on the pill and have you been given tranexamic acid?

I had a thickened endometrial lining and had to have a biopsy, had a Mirena inserted and job done. I didn't have any polyps though.

I’m 47 and have just been through this but as fluffy said, I am menopausal and on HRT and was put straight on the two week pathway (although they assured me it was unlikely to be anything to worry about). My bleeding was only very slight and my GP’s diligence was related to my HRT review. The polyp was not found at the scan stage though - that was a fun surprise. I would guess the process is different if you are younger and not on HRT, but not sure.
