BMA is a professional body, and not a research facility. This article was published by Kings college London university .

Why have you posted a paper that....doesn't prove your point at all?

Timeforabitofpeace · 22/10/2025 19:56

@comtesseNo, and neither did I! They aren’t necessary for most people, though.

I take the nutrition geeks magnesium mentioned above - two tablets in the evening and use the neom perfect night sleep magnesium body butter. Both have helped, I slept better and for longer, less “jiggly” legs at 2am! Totally recommend.

@Timeforabitofpeace You've told us magnesium is a big con, now you're stating it isn't necessary for most people. I'm telling you there are plenty of people it does work for, who happen to take it for a reason. Myself, definitely, several of my female colleagues and friends, three of whom are also peri or meno, swear by it. I'm happy for the people it is "not necessary" for, but it doesn't mean you can tell the rest of us we're wrong.

I use the Sweet Bee magnesium butter. I rub it into the soles of my feet. I find it works for me.

Honestly, unless you have celiac disease or have a very poor diet, eg you are elderly and with various health conditions, you do NOT need magnesium. It’s a great big con.

I'm guessing you're not menopausal.

Another vote for nutrition geeks tablets.

Timely, I’d say.

I've been on holiday this week and skipped my magnesium as I've been eating dinner too late to take it (I like to take mine at 5pm with my last meal of the day).
I've slept so badly all week.

I use magnesium glycinate from amazon. I take 3 tablets which is 450mcg of magnesium glycinate. I sleep like a log all night.

OP you know you need oestrogen cream in your vagina too, to stop the night time wees? It's called Estriol and is a game changer. Get it prescribed from GP. Ideally a couple of tubes a month.

Catsknowbest · 26/10/2025 13:48

I read this when it was published online. And it still doesn't make you right and others wrong 🙄

Yes I have the cream too and it does really help 👍

What is?

Reporting back - I have been taking 2 of the Geeks magnesium supplement now for a week with a magnesium rhodeola tablet as well that I take for anxiety and sleep is much better. I think this brand 3 in one is best out there in tablet form, the better spray made my feet itch and stung when i tried it on legs or stomach!
I was listening to a pod cast yesterday and there was an expert on there who said magnesium is required for pretty much every part of your body to work, if you eat a good diet with whole foods you may get enough but UPFs and other convenience foods have wrecked us as a nation so we don't always get enough and if you have particular symptoms as in insomnia! its worth a try. I have tried with and without and with definately preferable.

@Itsbeenalongoldday - so glad you've had a positive result!

loveawineloveacrisp · 29/10/2025 19:26

@Itsbeenalongoldday I'd recommend one magnesium and one ashwaganda (Geeks). I find that combo works really well.

Itsbeenalongoldday · 30/10/2025 12:23

@loveawineloveacrisp thanks ! love your user name thats me down to a tee!

Any of them seem to do the trick for me (and my kids! Don’t know why they suffer. They’re definitely not menopausal 😆)

Can I ask if you feel OK the next morning on 2 magnesium tablets?

I have been taking one tablet for about 1.5 weeks now. My sleep is definitely improved, but I'm still waking up a lot. Considering moving up to 2 tablets, but I'm a little worried that I will be groggy the next day and I have to drive.

Maybe I should try it on saturday night as I don't need to get up early on sunday?

Itsbeenalongoldday · 30/10/2025 22:42

@Belladog1 i take 2 and feel fine in the morning no grogginess - give it a go !
