Vaginal burning post period HELP

Neon11 · 17/10/2025 15:55

I started my period last Thursday but was away visiting and had to use pads that are not my usual brand through till tuesday which I have now found are "lightly scented" well since my period slowing down and stopping my vagina has been BURNING, nothing internally, mainly around the vulva? It feels raw and bruised, when i had a look down there i half expected her to be blistered! I've done a thrush pessary (im prone to thrush) and put some canesten cream on but oh my gosh it stings! This is my first period in a while as I've come off the oral contraceptive pill, so wondering if it could be either hormonal, thrush, or some sort of allergic reaction/burn. Can't get a appointment at my gp surgery for 2 weeks and no availability at sexual health... I could cry! Luckily i work from home so able to go commando.

Hi, how weird I had these symptoms for the first time in my life two weeks ago. I think it was a bad reaction to a new bubble bath in my case!

I found most of the symptoms were relieved by good old fashioned Sudocrem!

Blissful relief

It's almost certainly a reaction to the scented pads. I second trying Sudocrem.

How long did it last for you? Its so uncomfortable, like the worst thrush I've ever had but all externally! I'm going to apply a load of sudocream and hope I wake up tomorrow less sore!

Topida wash and spray by salcura could help get the ph back to normal and soothe the soreness. Or “spritz for bits” a post birth soothing spray might give done relief? Take painkillers, sounds horrible for you!

I also got this last week (and have before a couple of times, although I never connected it with period/pads). Guzzling a load of cranberry juice sorted it out within 24 hours.

Could it be hormone related? If so estriol cream on prescription helps x

It might be? I came off the combined pill in September, so this is my first natural period I've had in a very long time! I'm 34 but have had peri symptoms for a while...

That seems young for peri but who knows. Have a word with your GP. Estriol cream has been a miracle for me x

My mum went into full menopause by 40, and I did mention it to my gp, I went through a spell of constant bv/thrush/uti cycle and she said "that's not unusual as you get older..." but I will try again!

How are you feeling?

PumpkinSeasonOctober · 18/10/2025 20:05

I have also developed burning after my period and I’m counting down until Monday when I can try to get an appointment at the doctors or sexual health as I’ve just read they help with things like this too.

I have also done a thrush pessary just on the off chance but no improvement. I bought different pads this month too but surely they can’t cause this much of a reaction.

Without being too explicit is it mainly around the labia not up inside that's irritated? Let me know what they say, my local sexual health clinic only opens 2 days a week so I have more chance of winning the lottery!

I'm feeling abit better, 2 nights smothered in sudocream has definitely helped! Spent a small fortune on vaginal probiotics also to try and restore the balence!!

oh OP sounds awful 😖 I used to feel really dried out with both tampons and pads when I came off the pill and my periods returned and I changed over to period pants and honestly they help so much and are so much more comfortable. granted you have to wash them but honestly they are a lifesaver for me. I have really heavy periods due to endometriosis but they are so easy to wack on for a few hours and then swap for a new pair. you wash on a hot wash once you are done with them and they are good as new for the next time you need to wear them xx glad your feeling a bit better today - nothing worse than being irritated down there 😖xx
