Absolutely mortified! The cleaner found my used period pad

So today was my first period using reusable pads as I want to be more environmentally friendly… anyway these particular pads you use then put in the washing machine. All fine. Somehow a USED one had managed to get to the kitchen and I found it on the kitchen side, obviously the cleaner found it and put it there for me to see. Anyway, I’m so embarrassed that it managed to get into the kitchen (God knows how? I have a dog and kids so maybe one of them got hold of it?) what should I do now? Never speak of it again?

Don’t be embarrassed. She’s (most likely) a woman who also has periods. Cleaners are also used to dirt and mess.

These things sometimes happen. Just make a little joke and say sorry- “oh god, I’m so sorry my pad was left out, I had no idea” and she should reply, “oh it’s not a problem, these things happen” and then you get on with your lives.

Not a big deal, don’t worry about it.

and well done on being eco.

as an aside, I rinse mine in the bathroom sink before putting in the wash.

She has periods herself, so nothing to be embarrassed about! Even if she didn't it's fine. Tbh I'd probably make a joke and say I was mortified and wondered how it got there. I'm sure you can have a laugh together over it or if not just forget it.

Mumsnet, the only place on earth where reusing a bath towel is peak grotty degeneracy and the behaviour of only filthy unwashed slatterns, but leaving your bloody used pads in the kitchen for the cleaner to pick up is "not a big deal".

Please apologise to her. Yes cleaners are used to dirt but cleaning up your bodily fluid is somewhat above their paygrade.

I’m a cleaner and as a one off thing I wouldn’t be judging you. I do think you should just say .. I’m sorry it ended up in the kitchen, it’s not your job to deal with and it won’t happen again.

Apologise and move on!

How are you finding the pads? I'd love to try them but I can get quite heavy 😬

Babybirdmum · 14/10/2025 22:21

Thanks everyone, sounds reasonable to send her an apology text

They’re great for heavy periods I’ve had no leaks or anything. I got the long ones for night but the normal ones are good too. www.regn.co.uk/
