Something is wrong…

Im really worried that I’ve majorly fluffed up.
I am about 1.5 years late for my smear (had a baby, bought a new house, new job etc) all the excuses but really I just was being lazy.

I’ve had the coil for about 2 years and my friend recently got pregnant with her coil as it was dislodged, so I was reminded to check mine felt in the right place. When I did, I felt a pea sized lump on my cervix….

now I feel ridiculous for missing my smear and also ignoring other symptoms I’ve had. I have sometimes had light spotting after sex, and about a week before my period too.

I sent off a request to my gp for a smear today and they said I urgently need to see the dr tomorrow. Now I feel sick!? My mum actually had cervical cancer at the exact same age I am now…

has anyone experienced these symptoms and it been a benign diagnosis? I’m thinking on the line of polyp etc?
im spiralling 😅

Hello OP, couldn’t read and run, I’m sorry you are spiralling. Glad you can see the doctor soon. I’ve just looked it up and lumps on the cervix can easily be a type of cyst called a nabothian cyst which is caused by a blocked mucus gland. It could also be a cervical polyp. Both are benign. I know the immediate thought is to jump to worst case scenario but until you see a doctor you won’t know. I hope that the above stops you spiralling though. Sending gentle hugs

@bluecampbell thank you for your reply. I did see about a nabothian cyst and it does look like similar symptoms to what I have experienced. Hopefully it’s that! I think the fact I missed my smear is what’s sent me spiralling because I should know better and now if something is wrong, I’ll feel completely responsible

It’s so difficult but try not to blame yourself OP. They’re not the most pleasant of experiences and I think all of us have been guilty of putting them off, I know I have. Sometimes life gets in the way! Having a baby, a new house and a new job is stressful, it’s little wonder that you pushed it to the back of your mind. Go easy on yourself, and take care x

Try not to worry too much OP. The reason smears are so far apart is that even if anything is looking dangerous down there, it's pretty slow to change from abnormal cells into something very concerning. You've done the right thing by getting an appointment ASAP but it could be a lot of things. Some people just have lumps and bumps in odd places that you don't even worry about because you'll never see. Try to be calm, it's normal to imagine the worst case scenario but that's only one of many possible outcomes. Wishing you all the best for tomorrow
