Cervical polyps

When I had my smear a few weeks ago, the nurse said she could see 1 big polyp on my cervix. She put in a referral to have it removed, which I’ve just had through. Can someone tell me what the procedure is like? I’ve had a cone biopsy before to remove precancerous cells (20 ish years ago) so I don’t care about embarrassment from the procedure or anything. I just wondered is it similar to that, does it hurt? Do you go back to work straight afterwards etc?

Mine was done under GA, in the end: it turned out that I also had uterine polyps and they were all done together with a D&C. I was absolutely fine afterwards.

Initially, a different gynae had tried to remove vaginal polyps without pain relief and had said that he couldn't get the one on the cervix.

I would recommend that you insist on pain relief.

Thank you. I have an appointment in a few weeks which I believe is just a consultation. Hopefully I’ll feel better after that as I hate the not knowing what to expect!

When the first bloke tried to remove the polyps, it was a bit of a shock - I've never given birth and it was the first time I'd had a transvaginal scan: I was in my 60s, so I imagine that it would have been easier for a younger woman.

The follow-up procedure done under GA was straightforward. There was a bit of bleeding afterwards, but not a lot. I took my own sanitary towels in with me.
