Looking for some experiences of getting the coil fitted..
is it just painful getting it put in then okay after?
im due to do a couple of work calls (work from home) about 2hrs after I’ve had it fitted. Would you call off from work or will it be fine?

any tips welcome - very anxious!

It can be a bit crampy afterwards. You should be ok WFH though. Hav3 a hot water bottle and painkillers ready.

I've worked from home after having it placed / swapped out and was fine. The doctor prescribed me some transexemic (not sure on spelling!) acid tablets to take a couple of hours before the procedure each time though, still hurt during but ok after.

You will be absolutely fine especially working from home.

HolidayMojitos · 16/09/2025 17:24

WFH yes, you should be fine. It can be very crampy but tolerable enough for calls. Get some heavy duty pads as you may have quite a bleed after, which may last a while!

Notsurewheretostarthere · 16/09/2025 17:26

I wouldn't. I kept starting to faint (pre syncope?) after each coil insertion. And the cramps were next level.

I drove home after the last one and had to grip the steering wheel to keep myself alert. All I could do was lie down.

I’ve never been ok enough after but I do have endo, and my cramps are pretty bad for half a day after

I'd definitely make sure you take paracetamol and ibuprofen 1h before and have some ready after. Make sure they inject licodaine into your cervix and get numbing gel. Most people are probably fine to WFH after, have pads ready as well. Maybe some heat patches or the hand warmers but instead you can sit on it/soothe the area as long as you are careful.

Sorry to jump on but can you request this on the NHS?

I ended up being admitted and my DH had to come and pick me up, I then spent about a day lying on the couch. I couldn’t have worked. On balance though I’m glad I had it fitted!

Yes you can (I've never gone private but when I had mine because it started having issues they then did it after), I'd always say before you have the appointment, call before and say specifically you want it, all surgeries have this equipment as they use for it other minor procedures.

@stitty It's not like a proper injection, that's the term but it's definitely not the same it's a small little squirt. Honeslty it will make the whole thing better in the long run.
