Ovarian Cyst and Blocked Tube

I have a 8cm cyst on my right ovary and a blocked fallopian tube. It's causing a fair amount of pain and discomfort. MRI and blood tests ruled out cancer which has been a huge relief. I was told my ovary and tube will need to be removed and have been referred for surgery. I had my preop in the beginning of August and still haven't heard anything about surgery. I have a LO at home and was getting worried about when this will be and childcare. I called admissions today and was told I could be waiting 65 weeks for surgery. I was very shocked and upset, they found the cyst back in November 2023 and was told I would need surgery but I was pregnant and they decided to wait.

I am worried and I can't wait another 65 weeks, I am in lots of pain and am worried things will get worse. I have left a message for my consultant and contacted my GP to see if they can do anything.

Wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and if these are just the normal wait times now?

I'm very sorry it's going to be so long. If you were referred in November 2023 then does the 65 weeks go from there or were you initially referred in August this year?

Hopefully your consultant can perhaps expedite it if you're getting worse. GPs can't do anything but write to them, that's all they can do. Hopefully with triage you don't have to wait as long.

Thank you. Apparently it's from the original referral to surgery in June. I am going to contact PALS and see if they can help. Consultant is on leave so hopefully when she is back we can have a conversation. I'm feeling less overwhelmed now it just came as such a shock. Why they organise a preoperative appointment when surgery might be nearly 18 months down the line is still beyond me

Please do contact PALS, they may not be able to do anything but if you let them know about the issues from having it since you were pregnant etc and also that it's getting worse, see what they say. It's just crazy another 18 months, hopefully your consultant is useful as it is a very long time to wait.

Speak to PALS by all means.

If finances permit I would consider going private even if it was for only an up to date consultation.

Gynae waits in many areas of the U.K. are miles long for many reasons and women are suffering.

Unfortunately the situation is so bad they can't do that and it was never their role either as they state on their website unless there are errors in your care, you are getting very bad. But they can rectify the system errors in your appointments, sometimes its actually the ICB, I'm still now sure why but they'll reply and tell you if you need to know. I'd say be quite clear in the email what you want, as they'll always apologise which is nice but you sort of want more than that. So say I want x etc. Normally they can find an appointment or if someone cancels you'll be the first to get it.

But yes if you can private will be quicker but I'm not sure of the prices, I'm sure you can look around at a few different places and compare. Though I have no knowledge on the general range for a surgery.
