Progesterone only pill- protective effects

I’ve had a note from my GP that I’m due a contraceptive pill check. I’m on Cerelle, POP pill and I’m 52 and post menopausal. I did have a cancer scare in July due to a slightly thickened endometrium, a polyp, fibroid and ovarian cyst. The polyp was removed and was not cancerous. I’ve read that the POP is protective against womb thickening and that unopposed oestrogen is a risk factor for gynaecological cancers and I take the POP already because it stopped my migraines and I’m now thinking that I should stay on it given this recent history. Do you think that they will look to take me off it because of my age?

I was told at my contraception check a couple of years ago that I could stay on it till I turned 55, I’m assuming they figure at that point I’m no longer fertile so won’t need the contraception.

Everything you've said is why they are having a review. You should say that you take it for the migraines which it helps with. They can check about endometrial thickening, and balance the risk. Did you get your fibroids and ovarian cysts removed?

Thankyou, it’s a nurse that I see for pill reviews and they don’t seem very knowledgeable to be honest. They take my blood pressure and that’s about it normally. The fibroid and cyst are still there- the fibroid is 4cms and not causing any issues and the cyst is 1cm and I’m having a monitoring scan on it in November due to the cancer scare (had post menopausal bleeding). The cyst is not solid and the gynaecologist said that it’s fine given this.
I’m not that keen on coming off the POP pill because god knows how thick the endometrium would have been if I hadn’t been taking it, since it had thickening even when on it.

If its not causing problems that's good but I can't see why they removed your polyp but then didn't with the fibroid or cyst, as they can do it all at the same time. That way hopefully the fibroid doesn't grow bigger and start to cause problems.

See what the monitoring scan shows and go from there. Ask them anything you want to know.
