Discharge/bleeding between periods - please help!

For the last 2 periods well in between periods I have had this discharge/bleeding as pictured. Last month it was a few specs of fresh red blood like very precise little dots of red blood like when you cut yourself shaving or something. Then today I see this when I wipe. Smells odd but not fishy or overly disgusting just a “sharp” smell is the only way I can describe it. I went to docs about it last month as I have a cluster of lumps/tissue at the opening of my vagina. I told the doctor I felt like my insides were weighing down ever since I gave birth 2 years ago. I also have an overactive bladder which had been since I gave birth as well like I’ve got a UTI. My urine has been tested & she swabbed my cervix & said tissues can move around after birth but doesn’t look like a polyp or wart/cyst. I’ve also been slightly light headed the past few days not dizzy as such just feel weird.
Has anyone experienced this type of discharge around ovulation.
Im 31 not pregnant, no UTI, not on hormonal medication. Thanks in advance

Whatever those lumps are could be infected and that could be the smell then perhaps bleeding occasionally? Was the doctor not bothered by that?

Mumofsoontobe3 · 14/09/2025 20:28

Sorry if this is a daft question but are you up to date with your smear test? Please make sure you are as any changes (bleeding after sex, bleeding between periods etc) could be a sign of changes. Also consider any chances of pregnancy?

Songbird54321 · 14/09/2025 20:39

I get a similar spotting type thing but I have the mirena coil in so it’s related to that. I’d go back for another check just to put your mind at ease

A smear test is no good once you have symptoms. It's a prevention. If you have symptoms you need to book for an examination, NOT a smear.

Could it be fibroids? I have fibroids and occasionally have bleeding in-between periods

she tested my urine & done an internal swab so I don’t think they’re infected or I have any kind of infection. I’ve no other symptoms & this only happens once a month around ovulation

I am but I would’ve been due one this year but not long ago they moved it to every 5 years so I’m not due one until next year & I’m not pregnant I haven’t had sex in over 2 years

I’m not sure, is there a test or scan for that? What are fibroids?

What exactly did your GP say are the next steps?

Fibroids are non cancerous growths of the fibrous tissue/muscle in your uterus. You would need a pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound scan to detect that. Did your GP say anything about that? I'd go back and ask about that? If the bleeding is only at ovulation it's not majorly worrying or concerning.

I'd be more concerned with the tissue on the vagina etc.

Have you gotten any treatment for your overactive bladder?

It was picked up on a scan after a couple of bouts of bleeding

She said if it kept happening I could get a scan so I’m going to get an urgent GP appointment in the morning. I need to refer myself to physio for the overactive bladder

I only asked as precaution (or a reminder incase it's slipped her mind by mistake)

Sorry if that was insensitive about pregnancy. Definitely go back and ask for a second opinion at the GP. Hope you're ok OP!

How persistent is your overactive bladder? If it's quite bad, I recommend a mix of pelvic physiotherapy and also ask the GP as there is medication they can use. It wouldn't necessarily warrant a referral to urology yet, but normally the best outcomes would be a mix of the pelvic physiotherapy and then meds as well. Ask your GP about medication you can try.

Ask about getting a pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound as well, ask the GP to refer you for one. Then also ask for any other next steps she thinks you should take.

I’ve had it since I gave birth 2 years ago I just feel the urge to pee frequently like when you have a UTI but no pain. I used to be able to hold a pee for hours or when I woke up I could go until lunch time without peeing. Now if I pass a toilet I just go & pee regardless.
I think getting a scan will be no problem the doctor mentioned getting a scan at my last appointment. My doctors is closed today so had an extra day to worry about it

Well that's good about the scan, definitely bring it up and say you want both pelvic and transvaginal ultrasounds, but the GP should be fine to book those.

Pelvic floor physio can be great for the bladder but looking at how many years you've had it I would bring up with the GP that you want to start medication or at least trial some. Doing that with the physio is likely the best option, I'd emphasise to your GP that considering how many year you've had it medication is probably needed to supplement the physio if you want to try some. Hopefully you can get in with them tomorrow.
