Breast Lump Breastfeeding Weaning

Hello,

27yo

I weaned my third baby off of the breast 2 weeks ago after feeding him exclusively for 9 weeks since birth. I do feel I rushed the weaning process and dealt with days of engorged breasts but over the last 5 days they have been settled, not painful and back to feeling smaller and lighter than before when breastfeeding was in full swing.

However, my right breast which has reduced in size more than the left has a large area to the upper right and under the nipple which is firm and almost congealed feeling. Like a large platelet of breast tissue in one block which I can move around under the skin and rock back and forward. Again, non painful or tender. I have tried massaging in the shower and hand expressing milk out but the area is still there (around 3 inch long, 2 inch wide). I get the odd milk drawing down feeling in my breasts once a day or so and the area really stings. Things are obviously still sorting themselves out and it’s early days.

Is this an area of clogged milk ducts now that my breast has rapidly reduced in size which hasn’t been helped by the speed in which I’ve weaned? I have an appointment with the GP soon but wanted to see if anyone on here had any similar experience post weaning.

Thankyou!

Is it sore? It does sound like a clogged duct. I had one the other day and put a hot compress on it. I didn’t expect it to work but within about 30 mins it was almost like it had dissolved the lump. I put a facecloth with hot water on it inside a sandwich bag and the. Put the compress inside my bra for a bit, replacing the water when to got cold

This does tend to happen when breastfeeding, if the baby no longer suckles.

It'll either go away on is own, or as PP suggested, will dissipate after you use a hot compress on it.

Why did you stop nursing your baby?
