I noticed this raised area last wednesday and it is itchy too. Tried to ring GP Thursday and Friday but all appointments gone by time I got through. Same again this morning.
my worry is I scratched it absent minded today and it bled. I was going to go to GP door tomo for opening time. They hate you doing this and I will incur the wrath of the receptionist. So my question is would you be worried enough to do that or be patient again on phone.

Go. I have similar and keep putting it off. I’m going to phone tomorrow

AncientBallerina · 01/09/2025 18:29

Is it an existing mole that’s changed in appearance and bled? If so then yes try to get seen as soon as possible.

iamamickey · 01/09/2025 18:43

@AncientBallerinai have never noticed it before at all

Does your practice have an econsult where you can upload a photo?

TheChosenTwo · 01/09/2025 18:47

I was going to suggest sending a photo by econsult if you have it (not sure if our doctors have this but my sister works in this area and always tells the family to send a photo via econsult if unsure of anything!)

Me myself would probably ignore it forever more. Not very good advice but I tend to err on the side of ‘if it’s not causing me any issues I’ll ignore it. And even if it is causing me issues I’ll ignore it.’
ive had a weird thing on my arm for over a year, dh keeps nagging on at me to get it checked out. Its literally just a white spot that’s not causing me any problem, I’m not going to get it checked out!!

So if you’re worried, try and send a photo first.

iamamickey · 01/09/2025 18:57

I just looked on their website. I don’t see econsult. Maybe ill just be patient and call again.

Yeah I think try calling them again.

TheLivelyViper · 01/09/2025 22:04

It doesn't seem urgent, maybe go to the pharmacy first as it could be pretty minor. See if the pharmacist has any ideas at all. Otherwise I'd just call the next morning. Does your surgery have no online options?

tipsyraven · 01/09/2025 22:08

I would definitely get that looked at. I had something similar that needed treatment.

Limehawkmoth · 01/09/2025 22:35

Pharmacist first thing tomorrow, but take photo as well.
if pharmacist says nowt to worry about at this stage, track by taking monthly photos to monitor changes, or sooner if you notice a change. If no difference or bigger after a couple of photos then go to GP urgently

i have had multiple BCC and it normally takes me 2-3 months to be concerned that it’s maybe a BCC rather than zit to get to GP

key things I’d go straight to GP imhe are

  1. persistent bleeding- like skin very thin and bleeds even with just towel on
  2. gradual growth comparing photos
  3. growth in place never had blemish before
  4. pearly like raised spot sometimes with dip in middle ( like a tiny volcano!)

note: I’m just talking my experience with bcc

to set in context with BCC, current waiting time for removal even after plastic referral is 77 weeks in our area - hardly urgent cancer treatment
🙄😮
but BCC is not a killer . I assume other skin cancers get treated more urgently ! But BCC are the most common

just had my latest removed …via MOHS , good experience…no need to be frightened as most skin cancers are bcc and respond very well to minor surgery under local

but do NOT ignore

Limehawkmoth · 01/09/2025 22:38

Should add, as only just seen, tell pharmacists it’s itchy
non of my BCC were ever itchy
