Hysteroscopy help/ advice

I had a scan a few weeks ago due to having minor incontinence issues. During the course of this, they found I had a thickened womb lining (which I didn't know about) and fibroids (which I knew about).

I was put on a 2 week pathway for suspected endometrial cancer. When I turned up for my gynae appointment the consultant performed a biopsy which I found incredibly painful and continued with bad cramping for several days afterwards.

I have just received another gynae appointment in the post with a hysteroscopy leaflet. I've had no communication about the biopsy but am assuming they must have found something if they want to do a hysteroscopy. I have called the department and am awaiting a call back from them.

I am post menopausal, not had any bleeding and worried sick about the hysteroscopy, because I found the biopsy so fucking painful and no the paracetamol and ibuprofen did not help at all.

Had anyone else had this? At this moment in time I'm wondering what a hysteroscopy can give them that a biopsy didn't. I'm also wondering if I am being a drama queen of I ask for a general anaesthetic. Honestly I'm nearly in tears sat here thinking about it.

I'm not generally a worrier, but for some reason this is really getting to me.

Ask for GA, they can be very painful.

I am due to have a hysteroscopy and have asked for a GA as I have read that some find it extremely painful

There’s a campaign about this that you could look up. But just say you found the biopsy very painful and you want a GA. I think stats are that a third of women find it OK without, a third have pain and for a further third it’s excruciating.

I had one earlier this year and insisted on a GA.

I found it ok, just on paracetamol. Uncomfortable, crampy like period pain, but no worse.

I had a hysteoscopy when I had fibroids and I was absolutely shitting myself (metaphorically). I’d had a loop laser thing years before for CIN III cells on my cervix and that had hurt like a bastard.

I didn’t feel my hysteroscopy at all. I wouldn’t have known anything was happening. I took a Sopladeine (the good type, with codeine in) an hour before. I don’t know if that helped - there was no pain relief during the procedure. I had a lovely doctor and two nurses. One nurse held my hand 🥰 and they all told me they would stop if it was painful. I didn’t even feel the biopsy they did up there, and they’d told me that would be cramps. I was singing throughout the procedure (I was very nervous and probably slightly hysterical) and it was fine.

I had a hysteroscopy and then a biopsy last week for post menopausal bleeding. I had the hysteroscopy first and didn't find it very painful at all - just a bit uncomfortable with cramping and it was over really quickly. I took paracetamol and ibuprofen an hour before. I was also offered gas and air if needed. The nurse was great, keeping me chatting as a distraction.

I had the biopsy straight afterwards and I found that much more painful than the hysteroscopy, but still managed without any other pain relief. Hope that helps.

I found it extremely painful (despite giving birth vaginally twice) and collapsed with shock afterwards. I'd want anaesthetic, G and A if I had to have it again.

I had a hysteroscopy when investigations were being carried out for infertility. As one tube was blocked so it was extremely painful. The nurse held me down. I went into shock, started shaking, near fainted and was sick. Definitely ask for a ga. I went on to have a baby born extremely quick. He was delivered by kiwi (suction) and I had an episiotomy. I didn't have time to get any pain relief. The hysteroscopy was worse than labour.

Thanks all, on the basis that I found the biopsy so painful, I am going to ask for the procedure to be under general, I genuinely don't think I would be able to relax enough that they could do the procedure and I'm not prepared to be in pain when there is an alternative.

My hysteroscopy wasn’t painful, but the biopsy was, although the pain had gone by the time I’d put my knickers back on.
