Vitamin supplements causing nausea: anyone else had this?

In the last two weeks I've started taking Centrum Women 50+ vitamin and mineral one-a-day tablets. They make me feel quite nauseous for 2-3 hours after swallowing them with food. It reminds me of how I used to feel after taking glucosamine and chonditrin tablets, when it turned out I had an allergy to green-lipped mussels.

I've looked through the ingredients and can't see anything to explain it. I've noticed a slight improvement to my gut health and would like to keep taking them. Anyone else had a similar experience? Did you body adjust and get over it or not? Cheers.

I feel weird if I take b12 tablets.

Maybe try taking specific vitamins separately and see if there's something you react to

iron does that for me. or multi vit containing iron.
I take those at night.

Iron can make you feel horrible.

I used to have this with a lot of Solgar supplements, regardless of what the actual supplement/vitamin was. I looked it up at the time and apparently there is a 'filler' ingredient in some tablets that can cause nausea in some people. I swapped brands and didn't have an issue afterwards.

Too many b vitamins make me feel and sometimes be sick. Like when I used to take thiamine and b complex and multi at the same time.

I take a prescription multivitamin after a meal and it doesn't have any bad effects if not coupled with b bits.

Thank you all for letting me know I'm not the only one. I have a generally healthy diet but thought it might help to take supplement and something in it has had a beneficial effect on my gut, so would like to keep that up. Never dreamed I'd be sitting here feeling like throwing up, though.

I'll try taking it at night. I'm having seasickness symptoms: moving my head makes things worse so that may be better if I'm in bed. If it's no better not sure what to do. The iron and B12 were one of the reasons I started taking it. Gah.

What did you switch too? I have problems with fillers too.

I haven't been able to take any kinds of vitamin supplements for years.

There are a lot of people in the nutritional health space who really don't like the sort of over the counter vitamins you can buy. Of course, the ones they like are all super expensive, so.... but I suspect there's probably a reason for that.

I would suggest trying things separately. Often the combo ones don't have a great deal of whatever you need anyway. And for gut health, a pure probiotic might be a better choice anyway.

Lots of things taken first thing in the morning before food make me nauseous.

WellBing · 28/08/2025 17:39

When do you take them? I've found if I take things like cod liver oil first thing they make me feel sick. Maybe try and take later in the day when your throat is more lubricated and you have eaten.

KnottyKnitting · 28/08/2025 18:09

Do they contain zinc? I used to find that if I didn’t have these with food they made me feel nauseous
