PCOS Help

I have a telephone appointment with my GP next week. 25 years ago, I was diagnosed with PCOS and told to come back if it affected fertility. I was given the Mirena coil which stopped my periods completely.
However, since my last coil was put in five years ago, I’ve struggled to lose weight. I run 10K once a week, strength train 3 times a week, with a mixture of cardio.

I eat 1900 calories a day, which is in line with a TDEE calculator I have found but I’ve stayed the same weight for five years.

What can or should I ask my GP?

I want my coil removed because I think that is contributing to the weight plato.

Can I ask for blood tests?

Can I ask for Metformin? How does it work?

I’m praying that the attitude is not the same as it was 25 years ago.

Thanks in advance.

Hi , I have pcos and was diagnosed at 14 where I was told I would never be able to conceive . I had issues with periods acne hirsuitism and ibs. My weight ballooned and I was miserable for many years. After hitting just over 20stone when I was 30 I went to Belgium for a privately funded gastric bypass I lost over 10 stone . At the age of 34 I fell pregnant massive shock !!!! Healthy pregnancy and healthy baby at the age of 38 I fell pregnant again all fine again ! I had and still have regular periods and skin cleared up . The surgeon told me this may happen but I didn’t believe him . I never realised losing weight could reverse so many symptoms. Pcos is specialist and I only ever see a gp who knew very little . I tried metformin and it made me very sick so was taken off them they kind of wrote me off. My niece is having same problems as me and the specialists have encouraged her to try weight loss injections as opposed to metformin as they stabilise insulin resistance. She is doing really well . Don’t be fobbed off do your research and keep shouting for help !! I wish you good luck op 🤞 sorry for the long post 😊
