Prolapse womb and treatment

MusicMakesItAllBetter · 14/08/2025 19:57

I have a prolapse womb which thankfully is still internal but it's literally at the front of my vagina. I can poke it and push it up but it doesn't stay there due to rubbish pelvic floor (obvs).

I had an examination recently and I've been referred for a pessary ring and so of course I wanted to come here and ask if anyone has had this, what it entailed, did it help etc.

Thanks in advance.

@MusicMakesItAllBetter

This is a very informative site, hope it gives a little more insight.

I have tried different pessary rings but they don't work for me, they just come out when I go to the toilet and my hands aren't strong enough to bend it to get it back in.
I found it quite uncomfortable when the doctor was trying different sizes, putting it in and taking it out. I could also feel it rubbing inside when I walked. Read on the prolapse UK Facebook group, lots of info on there and it's very friendly.

Give it a go, it might be perfect for you and hold you back in place

Currently waiting for surgery for mine.

I got one but never bother with it, it doesn’t seem to do anything.

I went to a private women's health physio - worth her weight in gold. The pessaries she uses are silicon and cost £30 and are quite flexible. quite easy to get in and out. The NHS ones cost the NHS £5 and are more rigid and so uncomfortable.

She recommended I get Estriol cream prescribed by my doctor, and download and use the SQUEEZY NHS app to do regular PF exercises. I recently went back after 6 months, I only needed the pessary for 4 months and it did begin to come out after the cream and exercises started taking effect. She said she could try a different size, but that on examination my prolapse had improved from a grade 3 to a 2 - and to carry on with the cream and exercise. I decided to try without.

I can no longer feel it - no more sensation that my insides are about to drop out!

Wow this is a great experience.
I can't afford to go private so I'll see how the NHS goes.
I wonder if I can get it through my DPs work medical benefit thing...
Food for thought.
Thank you

I have the ring pessary and it works for me. It is changed every 6 months and, in fact, I'm off to get it changed tomorrow. I do get some urine leakage so I use an Always pad day to day. I only need 1 pad a day for extra confidence. Especially when coughing!
I'm 72 now and if this is as bad as it gets then I can cope very easily. I don't want an op, I think it's too risky.

Ah, great response.
I use Always liners daily and will change it if it's required which isn't often thank goodness.

My womb has been trying to evacuate my body for a few years now but lately I've been so put off with the whole thing.
Put it this way, I wish my vagina had aged as well as my face 🫣 I mean what the heck man??? Did all my wrinkles fall off and land in my crutch one night??? Ugh 😩

Hey just to let you know - you can self-refer for a pelvic physio. Initially the website will just say physio but if you describe your issues well on the forms, they'll get someone who does pelvic women's physio. I'd google self-refer physiotherapy/pelvic physiotherapist and then you local area. It should come up. I've moved a lot across various areas of the country and it's always been available. I'd try that and a pessary as well.

Definitely worth trying a pessary, it might work wonders for you. I had a ring fitted and it was great until I had minor rectal surgery which seems to have worsened my prolapse (rectocele, uterus and cystocele). Now it doesn’t hold it so well but I still won’t do anything without it in. I’m awaiting an appointment to get reassessed. Good luck, I hope it works
