Tubal litigation and Uterine ablation

Hi
I received a call this morning that im at the top of the list now for these procedures (both in the same operation.) I'm absolutely 50/50 on whether I should get it done. The fact is ive never had anything explained to me about this just that my periods were very heavy and im done having kids so I was put on the list, that was a couple years ago and I forgot about it. Now it's happening and ive been googling and now im worried 😟 ive had a Cancer scare these past few months so on the one hand if I get rid of my tubes that reduces the risk of Ovarian Cancer but on the other hand there is a chance of tubal litigation syndrome, which ive read lots of doctors dont even recognise as something that even exists. The same with the ablation, great I could end up with no heavy periods, but the other hand scar tissue could form and make things worse? What about symptoms such as bleeding between periods that could alert you to potential Cancer? That wouldnt happen if I have the ablation?
I'm really really stuck on what to do and feel really under pressure. I have already delayed this a few months as I had a red flag referral for gynaecology, thankfully ive got the all clear now, but as soon I got the all clear they have called and im on the spot and dont know what to do.
Has anyone had these procedures done together? I'd be interested to hear anyone's thoughts - not so much about immediately after the procedure, but long term has it been good or bad for you?
Help!

I mean it's up to you, humans brains are geares to overfocus on the negative and not the positives. I'd just say if you say no, it will be a very long time before you come back onto the top of the waitlist, most people get through it absolutely fine and they have no issues - statistically that is the most likely outcome. What else have you tried for heavy periods? I'm guessing tranexamic acid, mirena etc, and if you have there's unlikely to be anything else or any other options to help with it, so you just have to think of the impact it's had on your life and whether you want to continue with it or not.

Thanks for the reply. Your right we do focus on the negative and its in my nature to worry and think of the worst case scenario. I'm very early 40's and feel im peri menopausal, just come out of a bad bout of depression and anxiety, still naturally an anxious person but trying so hard to retrain my brain to not spiral.
I'm currently on tranexamic acid and it does help but I also have to wear a panty liner daily even when im not on my periods just for the amount of discharge I have daily. O have frequent bouts of thrush, cervical etrotion (sp?) Previously had the mirena coil but had to have it taken out, tried the pill in various form but my body reacts badly to synthetic hormones.
I know if I miss this opportunity it wont come up again for a long while, im just worried il get it done and il get all these other symptoms ive read about ( Increase in pelvic pain, persistent bad back, night sweats, mood swings, exhaustion, insomnia, depression, lack of sex drive, dry down below, constant headaches, skin changes, hair loss etc etc) I already deal with several of those things I dont need to add to it and this procedure is to help minimise those symptoms. On the other hand I could get it done and be totally fine and not have to deal with the periods and constant panty liners and pain etc etc but there's a risk!
I scar badly just in general and im worried how that will work out with the ablation, there's lots of what if's and I would of liked to have had a proper conversation with the consultant but its basically a pre op appointment with a nurse then thats it, im not even sure if its tubes getting tied or totally removed - I want to to specifically ask for the tubes to be removed not tied. I just feel there isn't enough space made for women to actually discuss these things properly before making such big decisions, it's just one big conveyer belt where yet again women aren't really listened to!

You can perhaps see if there's either a more specialist nurse who can go through it but on the day the consultant should come and see you and discuss any and all concerns though I agree it would be nice to have that conversation earlier. I think there are some likely side effects, vaginal dryness which can be pretty quickly dealt with by low dose topical oestrogen. If you want the tubes removed this should be more than possible, I'd try and use good and balanced info like the NHS website because obviously you're right there is the possibility of some side effects which you wouldn't want ans it's sometimes better to have it all fairly laid out).

I'm not in the UK so take that into context. When I was done having kids I asked for an endometrial ablation due to heavy periods and bad reactions to synthetic hormones including the mirena coil. I was told I could have one if I wanted, but I would still likely have periods, and that good results tend to last around 10 years. Scar tissue means at that point they cannot investigate causes for bleeding (but I'm in a country that's much more proactive about this than the UK), so it would likely lead to a hysterectomy down the line.

As an alternative to the ablation I was offered a hysterectomy straight away (I was 36 at the time). I went ahead with that and it's been life changing. I had the procedure done vaginally and had maybe a weekend of downtime. No negative side effects, no artificial hormones, no periods. I highly recommend that as an alternative if you have any say in the matter.

I was in a position where an ovarian cyst was found during an unrelated scan of my abdomen. No symptoms or pain at all. They said they wanted to remove the ovary and tube as a precaution in case it was cancerous. I talked with them at length about it. I ended up getting the procedure done. The cyst was found to be benign (not cancerous). I'm more or less ok but I get aches on that side if I exercise or exert myself too much. I always wonder if the operation was really necessary. I felt rushed into it too. I wonder if you have time to get a second opinion? It could give you another perspective/more information.

Thanks for taking the time to reply ladies, I have spent the day burying my head in the sand about it all and now unsurprisingly I can't sleep. I think im going to try and call the consultants secretary tomorrow and see if I can try and discuss this before it get to the point where the booking office is ringing to set the date. Hopefully that can give me some clarity and help me make a decision as at the moment I just feel so conflicted either way and I feel like its now moving too fast.
