Fit to fly pregnancy certificate

Hi all,

I will be 24 weeks pregnant when I fly. My doctors and midwife’s do not supply these, has anyone ordered one online? What were your experiences? I don’t necessarily need one before 28 weeks but the airline said to provide one anyway.

many thanks in advance

In my area the GP does it, but you have to pay. Are you sure your GP doesn't do them, or were they just saying they don't offer them for free?

That's ridiculous of the airline to say you don't need one but also that you do need one!

CAMO1984 · 13/08/2025 14:10

Thank you for the response.
Yeah been on the phone to the gps, they don’t do them at all, even if I pay. So only option is to get one online.
So just wondered peoples experience of this.
The airline said you don’t necessarily need one if you are less than 28 weeks but don’t want to risk this as I am quite big and I wouldn’t be able to prove otherwise if I get stopped or questioned ect. That’s what am worried about x x

GPs usually just do a factual letter ('Emma Smith is x weeks pregnant with a twin/singleton pregnancy and is due on date x') or else they can have insurance problems.

@CAMO1984 any private travel clinic should do this for you if you take your antenatal notes, and there are online companies that to it. Just put 'fit to fly letter (your area)' into google. Probably cost you about £50.

If it's just proof of the due date you need, use your MatB1?

CAMO1984 · 13/08/2025 14:36

@LavaHooveri don’t have a MatB1 form x x

Oh! You get given them early in pregnancy in Scotland, by your midwife. Is that not a thing in the rest of the UK? Sorry for assuming!

CAMO1984 · 13/08/2025 14:38

@mounjaroproblemyeah not sure why they won’t issue me one.
Thank you, will get one from the online ones x

If a GP says you are 'fit to fly' and something happens on the plane related to your pregnancy which means it needs to divert, e.g. you go into early labour, the airline could sue the GP for the (likely 6-figure) cost and the GPs professional insurance might well decline to pay it. That's why. The private companies will have insurance against this.

@LavaHooverthats ok 😊. We can get them from 20 weeks for your employer, but am not working at the moment as I am a stay at home mum x x
