Gynae pain relief

I'm under investigation for abdominal pain and a scan revealed a thickened endometrium with a lesion. I'm waiting for CT scan results and a gynae referral.

In the meantime I'm in a lot of pain and paracetamol isn't cutting it. GP has offered codeine but I think there might be something more specific that I could ask for. My google-fu is letting me down so can anyone suggest something?

I'd use opioids mainly and start with Co-codamol as it's very useful. You can also ask your GP for mefenamic acid and/or naproxen (NSAIDs which help a lot) and tranexamic acid (helps reduce heavy bleeding) - you need to start taking it days before your period starts so that it can work at best capacity. The same with ibuprofen and/or paracetamol. Start taking it 3/4 days before and it will be much better. What type of symptoms are you having? If you could be more specific, I can be more helpful with what might help.

Thank you. It's bad abdominal pain and I have ascites. I'm on the 2ww pathway for suspected cancer. I'm post menopausal so no bleeding. I'm taking paracetamol but it's not working. When I tried ibuprofen, I was sick (I have had nausea and vomiting a few times.)

I had naproxen a few years ago for back pain and it made me sick then so I wouldn't risk it now.

If you feel sick ask for antiemetics (anti sickness and naues meds), only if it's in general like during the day if it's triggered by meds then I would just stop taking it. You can try different NSAIDs though so mefenamic acid and many others which can help. You can then also try opioids for a little bit, and use they when needed for the pain.

I've got an anti-emetic now. Last night I was sick about an hour after taking it. 😪

It's pain relief I need, as I don't feel capable of doing anything due to it.

I take buscopan as part of my pain relief management routine for abdo pain caused by endometriosis as it helps reduce the spasms / cramps feelings 💖

It will take a while for the antiemetic to work and you may need a higher dose/to increase the frequency of taking it in a day. Be consistent with it even when you don't feel sick and maybe ask for a dose increase as well. It might take a few days/weeks to get into it so give it time. Also have a conversation with your GP about long-term pain management and they can go through all thr options with you.

Spoke to a GP and she is giving me codeine, Fybogel and buscopan. She doesn't recommend mefenamic acid (sp?) as I don't have any bleeding.
