I’ve been told my recent smear has found these changes.
The paperwork says in most cases colposcopy results are usually ok.
Anyobe here with experience? I am upset a bit not going to lie.
thank you

I had discaryosis when I was early 20s. The colposcopy was fine. I was put on annual smears for 5 years then it changed to 3 year smears which I'm still on now at 58.

Over the years I have had routine callbacks from tests. A callback after a mammogram (found a cyst which they drained) and a callback following a urine test (they didnt find anything sinister). I've worried silly about all of them. I think it's quite natural to, even though we should wait until we know the outcome, I think more of us worry than not.

All the best - hope you don't have to wait too long.

Thankyou for responding. That sounds very stressful! I’m glad it’s turned out well but you’re right about the worry.
im a lone parent th three and im so scared about this kind of thing because there is no plan b for them.

So thinking about that - as a separate issue to this test.

You ought to make a will and name a guardian for your children. When we first wrote our wills I didn't think we really needed to until the will writer asked about guardians for the children! Then we realised exactly how important a will was.

We asked and had a long term trusted friend and her husband agree to be guardians (we also had life insurance in place). They had children of a similar age and lived locally.

If I could I would, Thankyou though. Sending continued good health vibes to you
This has caught me by surprise being told about this smear stuff today.

Last year I received a letter saying I was HPV positive and had mild dyskaryosis. Like you, completely out of the blue and hit me hard. I couldn't help googling and worst case scenarios.
My colposcopy revealed no cancer and im having yearly smears.
The most recent at the start of the month showed the HPV still there and again, mild dyskaryosis, so im having another colposcopy in a few weeks.
Having been in your shoes the unknowing is the worst. Once you know, you know and can go from there.
But, most women in your position will be completely fine, a small minority will need a conoscopy or LLETZ procedure. An even smaller minority of this small minority will need further treatment.
You're in good hands and on the right pathway.

Thankyou, I really appreciate that. I’m taking my kids for a fun day out and going to treat myself to something nice to take the edge off!

Appointment is next Friday for colposcopy. Not sure if I’m impressed or concerned.

It just means they have availability
See it as a blessing you don't have to wait so long.

I had similar last year, HPV with low grade dyskaryosis. Received my letter mid July and was having the colposcopy on the 30th so don't be alarmed by the quick turn around. Colposcopy showed no cancer and like pp I'm on yearly smears. Had this years smear Monday so no idea if the HPV has cleared or not yet as too early for results. The staff were lovely and reassuring and I found the colposcopy easier than a regular smear. Please try not to worry 😊

I’ve had low grade the past few times which they continue to monitor. You’ll likely be offered treatment of biopsy comes back CIN2/3

Sux2buthen · 08/08/2025 11:22

Thanks all. I have chilled a bit now, it’s just getting letters with all of those unexpected words messed with my head for a bit

is it likely a biopsy will be needed for severe dyskaryosis?

They ended up doing the LLETZ, I wasn’t expecting it so I was a bit shaky but would say not as bad as I expected. I was mostly overwhelmed and a bit shaky but all in all that’s done 👍🏻she did specifically say it’s not cancer so that was the best possible thing to hear.
Im so impressed with the quick turnaround of getting the appt and having the cells out. Just over a week. Fantastic
