I hope I‘ve posted in the right place.

I‘m coming up to 40 and have 2 DC. A recent pregnancy scare has cemented my wish to not have any more children.

Please don’t shout at me, but I‘m not on any contraception. I haven’t been since we started trying for DC1. We don’t DTD very often, and when we do DH pulls out.

I used to be ok with the idea of an oops baby. But now I‘m not.

Is the copper coil a good option?

I‘m hesitant to go on hormonal contraception, because me hormones are already all over the place.

You could try the cooper coul if you don't want hormones or the mirena coil which is slightly different as it's also a treatment for heavy bleeding etc and does have progesterone. If its the insertion that scares you, ask for pain relief, use paracetamol around an hour before, numbing spray, gas and air, and licodaine injection into the cervix are all available. Or just use condoms and then you wouldn't have to use anything but the coils are both good options. If you want to ask more detailed and specific questions then ask to see your GP and ask reception is there's a GP with a specific interest in women's health who may be more helpful to go through the differences and pros and cons of all the options.
