HPV questions

DD (early 30s) just had cervical screening results which show HPV present, first time ever. We're very close so able to talk easily about this and have both used Internet to glean information to a degree, but just wondered if anyone had any suggestions to manage this in any form? / general health tips?

Wasn't she told how it would be managed ? Might just be a case of being screened every year instead of every 3.

DameDiazepam - no discussion with anyone, just a standard letter with a one-line about HPV positive and no mention of management or frequency of screening. What we're trying to establish is if there are any lifestyle changes she could make or tips from anyone with the same diagnosis.

I don't think there's anything you can do ,just one of those things that has to be monitored. Worth ringing the nurse to discuss it though. Personally I'd not Google unless it's the NHS page.

I'm HPV positive. It was picked up at a smear 3 years ago.
When I received the letter with the smear results it said that I was positive and would be recalled for a smear in one years time rather than the usual 3.

I've since been yearly for 2 more smears and was still testing positive so was sent for a colposcopy which turned into a LLETZ procedure. They took a biopsy which was fine and the hope is that the LLETZ procedure will kick start my body into finally recognising the HPV and actually fighting it and clearing it.

I'll be called back for another smear in November which is 6 months after the procedure and fingers crossed it will be gone.

Ottercave - thank you for that response. Our fingers will also be crossed for you in November Smile

Recognise how common it is. 80% of people get HPV in their lifetime. It's not anything you have to "do anything" about. She does, however, need extra monitoring in case the HPV causes complications. Chase the annual smears if they don't offer them.
