May I ask if anyone has any tips for pain relief gel for osteoarthritis in hands?

has anyone tried turmeric &. If so are you taking pills? Are Omega 3 capsules effective once they kick in? Apologies for the interrogation &
thankyou all in advance…Mumsnet has become my “”go to”.

I have OA in my hips, back and probably knees. I use collagen powder in my tea. This has helped my knees most of all.

I have it in my knee. HRT has helped.
My dad is elderly, OA all over. He was sick of painkillers so has tried Jointassure from boots. He said it is helping.

I am now way to far gone for this to help, but my excellent consultant told me about avocado poly unsaponifiables and they gave me a few more years without drugs or surgery. Look for one-third avocado oil and two-thirds soybean oil. Gelcap daily supplements are recommended at 300mg per day. In parts of Europe they are prescribed - but not in the UK.

I have osteoarthritis in my ankle, big toe and hands. I take tumeric capsules and feel they help, but a friend did not get on with them (I think because they act as a blood thinner). I use Sainsbury's ibuprofen gel - seems to work and is much cheaper than the branded alternatives.

Volterol (diclofenic) gel works well. Also arthritis gloves which are tight used to help me but now don't due to swelling.
I've tried a lot of the old wives tales suggestions including turmeric and many others, but nothing worked, I suspect you have to believe in them. Ok

Turmeric does lower inflammation but is best taken with black pepper and some kind of fat, for the full benefits. I take half a teaspoon in a little warm milk (about an egg up full) with a couple of twists of ground black pepper in it. It seems to help a lot.

I also add turmeric to savoury dishes, such as spaghetti bol, chilli etc as well as curry obviously.

It's a long time since I bought them - as I said I am way past help now. But they are a standard "recipe" so any legitimate retailer is ok.

I have it in my hands and other bits of my body. I find that the best thing for my hand and finger pain is washing them in hot water.

BobaTea · 21/09/2025 08:42

Hi I'm waiting to see a physiotherapist and an us scan is booked. I have osteoarthritis due to the bony lumps on my finger pip joints.

Do you have bony lumps too? Do you know how to slow down their growth? Do you also get the stinging sensation?

Have you been to the GP? I have it in my thumbs and index fingers, steroid injections have been wonderful for me. They relieve the stiffness and eliminate the pain and last around nine months.
