Scared of extremely watery discharge & pelvic pain

For the last two years, I have been experiencing extremely watery discharge that soaks through my underwear and trousers everyday. Even when I wear a maternity pad, the watery discharge soaks through that very quickly. Also, since January of this year I have only had my period three times and when it does come, the first two/three days are very heavy and I feel so drained of energy. The flow is so heavy that I have to wear two maternity pads back to back in my knickers. Also, since September 2024, I have been experiencing pelvic pain which is more prominent on the left and sometimes it hurts to keep walking. I also sometimes experience tight abdominal pain on the left side, like someone is clenching a fist inside my stomach. I'm scared of what this could be.

Who have you spoken to about this?

MauraLabingi · 27/07/2025 15:41

I would have put up with that for a week before going to the doctor. Two years?! You don't mention tests etc, so I assume you haven't had this investigated?

If you had an aggressive cancer or something it probably would have killed you by now quite frankly, or at least you would have a lot of very severe symptoms. But there are plenty of other conditions which can be managed much better with early intervention, so by not going to the GP you are possibly making your life much worse. What's stopping you?

I am morbidly obese and rarely leave the house due to long term mental health conditions.

You are probably feeling a mixture of fear and embarrassment. But you know rationally that none of us can really help you - you need to see a doctor. You know that. Please do it.

MauraLabingi · 27/07/2025 15:53

Ah right, okay. Well you could still phone the GP and chat on the phone. There may be tests they can organise without you leaving the house, eg a vaginal swab you do yourself (someone could pick up/drop off at surgery for you).

Even if you only do the phone appointment, then at the least you'll be more informed than you currently are, and with some information on possibilities you can make a decision about whether to take it further.

You need to see your GP urgently. As someone has said no one on here can diagnose you, only a GP can do this. If you are going to struggle to go and see your GP, ask if it's possible to have a home visit. The fact this has been going on for 2 years, is quite honestly worrying. Whatever is wrong, isn't going to miraculously get better by itself. You need medical intervention.

@AnxiousApocalypse The GP won't judge you, and it's important you get treatment, maybe go with a trusted friend or start with a phone call (you ask for the appointment to be with a GP you trust more). Or tell them about your anxiety and get a home visit, maybe get someone else to call the GP for you.

You may have an ovarian cysts or fiborids causing the pelvic pain. I recommend going to your GP and asking for a pelvic ultrasound a transvaginal ultrasound and urinary tract ultrasound looking at (kidneys + bladder). These can call be done at once as you likely have something going on linked in those areas. Make sure you mention how severe the discharge is (that it leaks through massive pads and your trousers). Also ask for swabs of your vagina (could be am infection).

Also ask your GP for mefenamic acid and/or naproxen (NSAIDs which help a lot) and tranexamic acid (helps reduce heavy bleeding) you need to start taking it days before your period starts so that it can work at best capacity. Start taking it 3/4 days before and it will be much better.

I also recommend asking the GP to try the pill and/or mirena coil can be amazing with heavy bleeding and pain. You might try different pills first. The mirena will may the uterus lining thinner, lessbleeding and less cramps),

Also, address your severe anxiety with the GP - ask to start antianxiety meds (normally beta blockers) and possibly antidepressants as well. You can also ask for a referral to therapy (I wouldn't go for CBT since you have severe anxiety) - maybe psychodynamic therapy or IFS therapy (the GP will know what you mean). You could also get a referral to see a Psychiatrist because you need more intense support since you rarely leave your house due to anxiety. Did something that triggered it @AnxiousApocalypse? A traumatic event or something.
