Missing coil

I had a pelvic ultrasound last week due to cramps. I have a coil that’s been in place for 4 years.
I have a history of fibroids and ovary cysts.
During the scan she couldn’t see the coil so I had an X-ray and no coil seen.
Report for scan is that the fibroids have shrunk slightly. One of the cysts has gone the other is 42mm. Womb lining 5mm.
I had a CA125 blood test and all clear.
Recommendations to be referred to gynaecologist. From what I’ve read my results are on the upper side of normal.
I’m 54 and not on hrt. I really do not recall loosing the coil. Now im wondering when I lost it, will I start having periods again.
Anyone else had this experience? Should I ask for hrt?

It must be in there surely?!

Apparently not. It can happen that it gets expelled without you knowing.

My coil perforated my uterus and ended up in my pelvis. I needed a surgery to get it out. Since this happened, I’ve heard a lot more similar stories of it happening to other women!

Coils can migrate and fall out without you realising . Whether you have a period or not depends on where you are menopause wise.
I had my coil removed in my mid 50's and never had another period.

Thank you. Havnt had a period for nearly 3 years now but didn’t know if it was because of the coil. I had it fitted because of heavy periods, that started I believe in peri menopause as up until then I always had light regular periods and on the pill.
when I had previously read that some women expel the coil I honestly thought you would know if that happened but apparently not. I’m unsure how long ago this happened could have been years ago, or could have been when the cramping started a few months ago.

That’s sounds horrible to go through. Neither the scan or X-ray picked it up so I’m guessing it’s not gone like yours did.
