Question about mammograms

I'm 50, not been called for breast screening yet so never had a mammogram and don't know much about how they're actually performed. I've found a lump tonight but it's on the flat, bony bit between my collar bone and where my actual breasts start (if that makes sense!) so I'm wondering whether a mammogram would even cover that area, is it even breast tissue there? Obviously I'll be ringing my GP on Monday but just wanted to get an idea what might happen next in terms of tests.

It's only the soft breast that's gently squeezed between the plates. I don't think that bit would be reached.
Possibly an ultrasound?
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along with more advice.
Try not to worry over the weekend. 💐

If your GP refers you for breast screening then you would be given a mammogram and an ultrasound. You're right in that a mammogram won't cover the bit near your collar bone, but the ultrasound will.

Thank you both, that's exactly what I wanted to know, hate anything medical so always need to know what to expect so I can prepare myself.

There's advice on the NHS website about what to expect in a mammogram. It's an uncomfortable process so would be worth taking some paracetamol beforehand.
