Vaginal itching - strep group C,G

Hello everyone. I’ve been combing the internet looking for some info that might help but I’m still pretty much in the dark, so here’s hoping that one of you knows a bit more about my condition.

I’ve been suffering with vaginal itching, occasional pain and even incontinence for the past year or so. The symptoms were identical (or very similar) to thrush symptoms, so I’ve been taking thrush medication for a year! The medication seemed to work short term, but the thrush would return the following month. I tried pills, pessaries, cream, etc. I recently had a swab which showed no thrush but a heavy growth of steptococcus dysgalactiae (C, G). As this is a bacterial infection and not a fungal infection, I was given amoxicillin, the strongest dose for a week. I was so happy to finally get treated.

I started the treatment 5 days ago and I don’t really feel any improvement. Perhaps I’m being impatient but I know that amoxicillin works fast. Im also puzzled that the thrush medication covered the strep C symptoms so well, but the actual treatment doesn’t seem to help. My gp doesn’t know if my partner should also get treated so I don’t know if sex is making things worse. Not quite sure what to do next, do I ask for another round of antibiotics? Are there different tests I can do? I know antibiotics can cause thrush, so I am taking probiotics.

Has any of you had vaginal step C,G?

Hello @Gabitule - I'm really sorry you are suffering. It could be a condition called aerobic vaginitis. This is not widely recognised in this country and unfortunately I struggled to get appropriate help. I found that it did not respond to oral antibiotics but topical treatment was better. I used fluomizin that is commonly used to treat bacterial vaginosis (a different condition). I believe topical clindamycin can also be used to treat this condition.

If you follow the thread through you will find links to a couple of scientific papers that you could print out and take to your GP or to a GUM clinic. Unfortunately I had to go it alone but you might have more luck.
