Surely this wouldn't cause this pain?

Ongoing back and pelvic pain. When I have my bowels open my pelvis aches after. I went for a ultrasound and they found a 1.6 x1 x1.5cm cyst on the left ovary. Surely this can't cause them symptoms?

Sorry OP I can't help.

Perhaps if you got your post moved to General health or Women's health topic someone might be able to give you advice.

It would depend @Notsurewheretoturn it could be pressing on a nerve, referred pain etc. I’d definitely go back to your gp to clarify.
what are they planning to do re the cyst? Possibly leave it be?
There’s a lot of muscles and nerves involved when defecating so it is a possibility x

Just letting you know we've moved this as requested, @Notsurewheretoturn Flowers

I had an ovarian cyst and it was bénign but increasingly painful. I couldn’t sit down on a sofa for over a year without pain and thought I had injured my hip doing sports although it didn’t hurt to run or play sport. I also couldn’t sit down on public transport.

Months of physio did nothing as obviously it was nothing to do with my hip.

Ask for your cyst to be removed.

DiscoBob · 10/07/2025 20:47

It's common for ovarian cysts to cause pelvic pain. So I'd say that sounds pretty normal. Not nice obviously.

If you feel there's other pain then where do you think it could be from, if not ovaries? If you feel it might be lower GI, pancreas, kidneys etc? Please do go back to the doctor if you feel the pain is not due to the ovary issue.

And regardless I hope you're on sufficient pain relief. And you find a solution to your issues. X

I hope your symptoms improve. I can only deduce it must be the ovary issues causing it in that case. But if you feel misdiagnosed definitely try and see another doctor.

Thank you I also have ibs so any pain down there is attributed to that but this is different.

I have embedded UTI and IBS and when I poo, its agony for hours afterwards

Notsurewheretoturn · 11/07/2025 11:06

Oh god. I don't think I've got a uti! I don't think I'd have adhesions either so god knows. The cyst is on the left but pain is more right sided.

A little smaller than yours.

Sorry, I tried to reply yesterday, but been having difficulty posting - anyone else? (I keep getting an error message about my username when I press post.)

I had a dermoid cyst on my left ovary. Only 5cm in size. I kept going to the doctors with back pain (lower left) that would come in waves. When it was bad it was like I was having contractions in labour and it would almost become unbearable. Everytime the doctors didn't think it was related to the cyst, referred me for physio and one doctor said that some people just get back pain and have to deal with it (annoyingly this was a woman as well). It was fully debilitating for me when the pain started and it would last for about 30 mins, I had to get my mother in law to come bring my kids to school one day when it started because i couldn't get off the sofa, then i'd be wiped out. One of my doctors luckily did refer me to a gynecologist anyway, even though she didn't think it was anything to do with it. It took over a year but he agreed to remove it even though he wasn't sure it was causing the pain. After surgery he said the cyst was wedged behind my uterus so probably was pressing on a nerve. That was 18 mths ago and I haven't had the pain since, thankfully.
