Prolonged bleeding not fixed by mini pill?

Hello,
I have been suffering from irregular bleeding since January. Lengthy bleeds up to 34 days. I saw a gynaecologist who carried out a transvaginal ultrasound. He diagnosed me with mild adenomyosis (uterus was a bit bulky) and found my lining to he thicker than expected as I had been bleeding for so long. He said it was hormonal (I'm 45 now) as he said my ovaries had very little follicle activity and they were small. He prescribed either the mini pill or mirena. After many friends told me to stay away from mirena like the plague, I opted for the mini pill as I thought if it didn't work, I could switch to mirena. Well, after taking it for almost 5 months, the periods have lightened (first one on the mini pill was 34 days bleed and heavy! Then I had a break then a 25 day bleed but 19 days of that was spotting, then a break then another 19 days bleed (and I'm still in this) but 11 days of that is spotting.)

I'm waiting for an appointment to see my gynae again as he said if it doesn't improve to go back and we will need further investigations, but whilst I wait, I wonder if anybody found the mini pill didn't help them?

I take a double dose of the mini pill. A single dose didn't work. And I still get spotting after a couple of months, so I then stop taking it, have a fairly light period and resume the mini pill.

Thank you for your reply. I'm glad you found a solution! Was your peri related too?

I've no idea. I'm about the same age, but my gynecologist didn't mention peri menopause and I try not to believe in it as I think it is easy to find symptoms if you go looking for them. So I'm going to wait until I have glaring, unavoidable symptoms to start believing in it. I appreciate this makes me sound a bit crazy, but it might work.

I understand. If symptoms are resolved then it's a win!
