Does anyone know what I should do about this type of hair loss. I’m starting to bald at the front top of my head either side (kind of over my temples),

I went to the doctors and mentioned I wasn’t feeling well over a long course of time, he seemed a bit annoyed at the app. and said I’m clearly overweight and that’s what’s causing all my health problems (bmi 27)

I pointed out my hair loss and he said ‘that’s not that type of hair loss’ I didn’t know what he meant and was so intimidated I just wanted to get out so here I am asking on here. Thanks

hi

Check Ferritin levels and B12. NHS says Ferritin is fine over 10 but needs to be 50 to prevent hair loss.

Also HRT helps.

I lost a lot of hair due to illness. I had it cut quite short (for me). I was already taking a super complex vitamin B which helped. I then started using a L'Occitane shampoo which contains rosemary extract. I started noticing regrowth after approx 8 weeks.
A year later I returned to my hairdresser for a trim & she was amazed at the difference.
I'm now 2+ years on & my hair looks thick & healthy.
Obviously it depends on the underlying cause but this worked for me.

I think you need to find out what type of hair loss you have. It could be stress, vitamin deficiency, traction alopecia, androgenetic alopecia (female pattern baldness) or frontal fibrosing alopecia & tailor the treatment accordingly. Might be best seeing a dermatologist that specialises in womens hair loss.

Honeypuffs · 01/07/2025 13:49

Thanks @cleowasmycat my ferritin was 51 so hopefully that’s ok.

@CoffeeBeansGalore I will try the shampoo. I take a multi vitamin but not sure about complex b vitamins.

Get your thyroid tested

CoffeeBeansGalore · 01/07/2025 15:30

@Honeypuffs These are the ones I take. Lindens, available on ebay. Not sure about Amazon. Far higher dosage than a multi vitamin & more effective. Good for reducing headaches as well!

Keep in mind a consultation with a dermatologist if you don't see an improvement after taking supplements or other topical treatments like a different shampoo. Don't be fobbed off by your GP. Also, keep an eye on your eyebrows. Some forms of alopecia can affect your eyebrows as well. Good luck!

I watched a programme about hair loss, there was a hair loss specialist Eva Prowdman or something like that and she'd look at the hair & scalp with a special scope to analyze the type of loss & organised blood tests. I think she used minoxidil, red light or laser caps, micro needling and various treatments and the results were great. They showed the ones that were hard to treat too. She seemed lovely, very empathetic.

@FuzzyCaoraDhubh good point I forgot to mention I’m also losing my eyebrows. My eyebrow lady pointed it out.

Many potential causes for hair loss. But the loss of the outer third of the eyebrows is specific to hypothyroidism.

simsbustinoutmimi · 03/07/2025 02:23

Do you have pcos?

DrPrunesqualer · 03/07/2025 02:29

B12. Is essential
A half teaspoon of yeast flakes will give you enough or fortified cereals for example.
For a super boost to the system you can get a B12 spray. Or if levels are low your gp will prescribe b12

Meanwhile. Regain is very good. Get the mens version as it’s cheaper but exactly the same just in a non girlie bottle. Use once a day.

CherryRipe1 · 03/07/2025 02:31

Endometriosis can cause hair loss too. Definitely thyroids as my sister & cousin have the outer brow areas missing due to thyroid issues.
