can I have medical operation and cosmetic surgery at the same time and claim on insurance for the ‘medical’ parts only?

i have a tummy hernia which would be covered by my work health insurance but also want a tummy tuck as the way my stomach looks makes me depressed since have a dc.

I wondered if I get the tummy hernia done on the insurance if it’s possible to have a tummy tuck done at the same time so I can claim the anaesthetic and overnight hospital stay on the insurance (which I could claim if only having the hernia op) therefore making the tummy tuck cheaper overall.

The thought of even trying to explain that to your insurer and the hospital billing department sounds like a nightmare in itself!

In short, no, I don’t think that it would work.

It’s 2 separate surgeries and probably 2 separate surgeons too! how on earth would you coordinate that?

My partner had a hernia operation recently and it took him a few months to recover. It’s not a pleasant surgery. Doing both at the same time sounds quite mad to me.

Thanks. It is possible to have both done at the same time and I have seen a surgeon years ago who could do it but then I chickened out. Now I have less money to do it with but a lot more time as I’m not working now and so I wondered if anyone had done this.

@Redhairsally - not sure how you got on as this post is quite old but I hope you managed to do both surgeries together
