High platelets - can anyone interpret these results?

I tested low iron (ferritin) on a home test, couldn’t get a gp appointment so took iron tablets for four months while trying to get an appointment. Still couldn’t get one! In the end I moved surgery, (new surgery is amazing) had my blood tested this morning and the results the same day!!! I can’t see that my ferritin was tested at all and my platelets are high. Is this indicative of low iron or something else? What do these numbers mean? Obviously I’ll call the surgery on Monday but just curious meanwhile as I’ve had every symptom of anaemia going and been feeling really tired. Do these explain it?

Normal is 150-400 so they aren't of range by a crazy amount.

Your HB is 135 you’re definitely not anaemic. Your ferritin is different to iron so you would need that checked separately

It can be indicative of inflammation, alongside other markers such as high ESR. It's one of the markers DD gets when in a Crohn's flare.

I posted it in chatgpt and it suggested the following
Here's what’s likely happening:

Your platelet count of 431 is probably a case of reactive (secondary) thrombocytosis due to iron deficiency.

🔍 Why Iron Deficiency Raises Platelets:

When you’re low in iron (like with low ferritin), your bone marrow ramps up platelet production.

This is a known and common response — your body may be trying to compensate for other blood cell imbalances.

After taking iron for a few months, your red cells normalize faster than your platelets — it can take time for platelets to settle back down.

🩸 What to Do Now:

  1. Recheck your ferritin and iron levels — see if the supplements have worked.

Ferritin should ideally be >30–50 ng/mL (some aim for ≥70 for symptom relief).

  1. Monitor your platelet count over time:

If ferritin is now normal and platelets stay high, a second cause might be at play.

  1. If your platelet count was previously higher (say 500+), and it’s now falling to 431, that’s a good sign — it’s trending down.

🩺 Bottom Line:

Your elevated platelets are very likely due to iron deficiency, which you’ve already been treating — so this count of 431 is:

Mild

Likely temporary

Not dangerous if you have no other risk factors or symptoms
