I had a scan last week and they found a thickened womb lining 17.7 mm and possible polyps. Lots of ???? next to the word polyp.
My GP phoned the same day and said I would have a hysteroscopy in the next 2 weeks .
Our son gets married soon 3rd July and I am getting myself in such a state .I am 51 , still have periods and on HRT .I am scared of having it done but I can be brave .
I am very tearful and not feeling great and dreading going into work tomorrow as they will ask what is happening and I just don't know yet .I had a text to say that they have my referral and there is no need to telephone them.

I had exactly the same a year ago. I’m 52. Lining measured 24 mm and the scan said polyps and fibroids. It all sounded so urgent and alarming. I was terrified about the procedure and the outcome and was convinced I had cancer. I had the hysteroscopy 2 weeks later, which was really not bad at all. Mildly uncomfortable. The doctor said it’s very common at this age to have thickened lining and all looks fine. So I felt reassured there and then and had a letter two weeks later with the all clear from the biopsies he’d taken (pain free.) I was worried I’d need an anaesthetic but honestly was fine without it. Good luck OP, I hope you have a similar experience. I know how you feel, I was also tearful and couldnt think about anything else x

I’m the same as pp, suspected polyp (it wasn’t, everything was fine). I had a general anaesthetic when I had mine done. But honestly it’s a quick procedure and recovery also quick too.
It’s quite common so try not to panic, they will explain everything to you.

I had a couple of hysteroscopies 9 years or so ago and all was well. Two and a half years ago I had heavy bleeding (all post meno) another two hysteroscopies and more polyps and precancerous cells. I chose to have a hysterectomy and have never looked back. Even though everything was done very swiftly it was still 8 weeks from my first visit to my GP to being given the date for my op.

Even if there is reason for concern you will be fine for the wedding and will have recovered from the hysteroscopy. Like you I was really busy in preparing for my daughter's wedding and was fitting in organisation alongside GP and hospital visits but all was well.

I do hope you have the same good news that I had eventually and the you have a wonderful time at the wedding.

I've had a hysteroscopy/polypectomy before and it was fine. Bit crampy for a couple of days but back at work after a day off. The procedure itself was bearable, uncomfortable but not too painful and I couldn't feel the polyp being removed (I watched them do it on the screen!). I'm having another one in a couple of weeks and am due back at work 2 days later. I only had local and will be doing the same again despite being offered a GA this time.
It is different for everyone though but you should be offered drugs/anaesthetic if you think you need them.
