Itchy vulva

I’ve been struggling with an itchy vulva for months now. I’ve ruled out pretty much everything and I’m left with thinking it’s my soap powder.

Can anyone recommend what I should wash my pants in?

Also It can be the start of vagina atrophy and all the lovely stuff that brings

but if you have narrowed it down to detergent check that it’s got SLS in it if it has then that’s your culprit

that and probably your pessary

My gynaecologist suggested Hydromol ointment.
It works wonders.
Use it has a soap/ a moisturiser for the outer vagina and also a barrier before swimming etc.
It's amazing.
I had vaginal dermatitis. Not anymore.

I also use hydromol, having been recommended it by a doctor. It’s really soothing as both soap substitute and moisturiser.

Thanks for replying. I’ve gone through all of those things and I have an oestrogen pessary prescribed. At night, if I don’t wear pants, I don’t itch.

I have the same @Invisabledisappearingperson and the GP didn't know what was causing it so I was referred to the vulva dept at my local hospital gynaecology dept. She said it is atrophy and I had to do the pessary daily and use Ovestin cream on the area daily for 4 weeks, then every other day for 4 weeks and then three times a week from then on. It has really helped, although the itching hasn't gone completely it is 90% better than it was. I also use emollient cream to wash with and she also said to not trim the hair down there as it can irritate it more due to the sharp, blunt end.

Yes and that’s why I think it’s the washing powder I use. My plan is to wash all my pants in a mild formula to see what difference it makes.

Edited

I’m post menopausal and through any and all symptoms except itching and soreness of my vulva. Like another poster, it used to affect my anus too, but Vegifem oestrogen pessaries solved that. Although it reduced the problem with my vulva, it didn’t solve it and it needs careful management. I only wash there with water and I use a vulva cream/balm daily. The best one I have found is Olive and Bee. You can’t open any get it on Amazon, but it’s cheaper from a pharmacy selling on EBay.

i read this yesterday then had a call and forgot to get back
check for diabetes, itchy round that area is very common with a high blood sugar common to diabetics esp undiagnosed

I'm so grateful for this post.

I've been suffering the same, and I have narrowed it down to pads, tampons and period pants! (What on earth is in them!).

So annoying as with perimenopause has come incontinence (periods replaced with that instead, marvellous!).

I have found bamboo pads don’t cause an issue so hope these continue to work or not sure what I’ll do.

I was going to comment the same, it's how I found out I was type 2 diabetic.

I washed all my pants in Sainsbury’s non bio. Results are in, no more itching. I’m so pleased, with all the talk of diabetes and even cancer, I was panicking.

Your old detergent probably had SLS in it
it’s in so much stuff and causing insane itching and soreness
if you get the time check if your old stuff had SLS in it
if it has then it’s worth avoiding anything that has it. - from toothpaste to shampoos 😂
