Swollen Ankle Relief

Not sure if this is quite the right forum but my MIL is currently suffering with severely swollen ankles due to a medication she's recently started taking. She's finding her ankles really uncomfortable and the skin is feeling tight. It's also looking dry, although shes not mentioned that. It's not painful as such but not pleasant. Can anyone suggest any creams, sprays, lotions or potions above usual moisturiser which may help to bring her some relief? TIA

keeping her feet up as much as possible.

something like cetraben (comes in a massive pump bottle for about £15) will help to stop the skin cracking and becoming sore.

That's a good call. I was thinking something more luxurious and pampering but actually cetraben might be a more useful option. Any foot soaks or bubble baths that might be helpful?

Go to the gp and they can measure for compression socks that are on prescription.

Not really, though they might have a nice psychological effect for her if she's feeling down.

@BunnyEaster's suggestion re compression socks is another good one. You can buy them yourself but it's worth getting them measured. Practice nurses can do them too.

Lie on the sofa in the afternoon with feet on a pillow - feet need to be higher than your heart, just putting them on a footstool won’t help much.

district nurse could help with compression stockings but she might have to go through her gp or go to a lymphadena clinic for that.
