Dry vagina

2 months into a new contraception and my vagina is SO dry. It even itches because it’s so dry and wiping is uncomfy. Gp has said it can take 3 months on a new contraception for everything to get back to normal so I shall persevere for 1 more month.

what can I use? I know I can use lubricant for sex but just in general..I can’t deal with this intense uncomfortable dry feeling. All day. Everyday. Recommendations please? I’m in my 20s , struggling with a dry vagina😣

There’s a ph matched vaginal moisturiser called Yes. I saw it mentioned & recommended on another thread.

Try coconut oil. Make sure it's only used by you, etc. I use a spoon to scoop what I need. You don't need much and it's affordable. It will get you through the next few months and hopefully your body's hormones adjust.

I'm not sure you should be putting coconut oil on your vagina (vulva?).

Change contraception.

Don’t know what you Steven but the pill can thin vagina walls, shrink your clitoris and make you dry.

I had all this but no idea it was due to the pill as there wasn’t that information then.

Maybe this is the case. If I do itch it in the shower for example the skins so thin and dry it breaks and has a little bleed. Nightmare!

Yes VM.

If it’s your Vulva rather than vagina, then I’d suggest washing by with dermol lotion and using diprobase ointment after drying thoroughly, and again before bed. This was recommended to me by a gynaecologist.

It’s actually fine, according to an OB GYN on TikTok, but there are other options.
Hydromol is also fine, and actually recommended for people with LS by one nhs trust.

I use Vagasil suppositories. Initially one a night for about 5-6 days and now I only need / use one every 2-3 nights to feel "normal" with re: to dryness. I pop it in when I either know I'm going to lie on the sofa for a few hours in the evening or if I'm busy in the evening then jsut do it when I go to bed.

I don't tend to have sex when I've just put one in. A couple of hours later is ok but not right away.

Helps immensely, itch has gone totally and I don't feel dry.

I also use the vagasil PH wash once a day but that was more for the external itch.

Ugh, I feel you — hormone shifts can really mess with your body, and vaginal dryness is the absolute worst. You’re definitely not alone, and it’s good your GP gave you a heads-up about the 3-month adjustment window. That said, no one wants to be uncomfortable 24/7.

Outside of sex, you can use a vaginal moisturizer daily (not just a lube). Look for water-based or coconut-infused options that are pH balanced — I’ve personally had great relief using Cocolube, even outside the bedroom. It's gentle enough for everyday use and doesn’t leave that sticky feeling.

Also: hydrate like crazy, wear cotton undies, and skip harsh soaps or scented products down there. Hope it eases up soon — hang in there

This has saved my sanity in the last couple of months! It itched like mad for a few days when I started using it, but then fine and it's made a huge difference to the dryness.

When you wee , dab don't wipe , that might help .

TheLivelyViper · 30/07/2025 15:04

Try topical vaginal oestrogen @meagain3 it can really help. Plus doesn't have the risks of oestrogen in the whole body. Ask your GP to prescibe.

What OBGYN? Like the account, most and the Royal College of OBGYN in the UK don't recommend any whether its 'ph balanced or not' and definitely not flavoured.

I had an extremely dry vagina when menopause first hit and I used olive oil which was wonderful. Also coconut oil as mentioned above and that's handier for carrying around in a little tub. One application in the morning would usually get me through the day.
