Polyp in uterus

whitehear · 23/05/2025 18:56

So after having an ultrasound for a different reasons last weekend. The results are back, all fine except a polyp on my uterus that needs removing.

Has anyone ever had this done before, will I be awake and is it painful?
Thanks

I had one recently and it was fine, removed under general anaesthetic, fast and simple, was walking home within a few hours and the follow up scan saud everything's good.

I’ve had one removed. They did a hysteroscopy under general anaesthetic and removed it then. Zero discomfort afterwards.

I was told to take painkillers if needed afterwards, but I felt fine. I assume it can vary, but overall I was pleasantly surprised at how efficient and ok it was. From what I looked up on Mumsnet beforehand, general anaesthetic is preferable.

Thanks. Ive been reading up about getting them removed and read that they also do it whilst your awake and anaesthetic isn’t needed in some cases. That worried me a little!

I had mine under GA, no way would I want to be awake

RandomMess · 23/05/2025 19:27

I tried to have a hysteroscopy without GA didn’t get far, next ones under GA thank you very much.

So when I do go for the procedure I can ask for it under GA? I’m the same, no chance I want to be awake!

Are you sure that is a uterine/endometrial polyp?

I've had several cervical polyps removed when awake with no anaesthesia (twice by the GP) . Was sore but over quickly. Uterine polyp I was under, had hysteroscopy, polyp removed, several biopsies and Mirena inserted. Cramping for few days but think likely the Mirena.

Might depend where the polyp is too, mine was top of the womb so would have been really hard to get to with me awake.
