Urine dipstick blood

Fatrollypolly · 23/05/2025 11:55

Hi

i I had a uti recently so bought some dipsticks to monitor it myself and check the uti has gone.

dipstick is now normal (except for blood) and symptoms gone but the dipstick is still showing blood.

I saw the nurse today for something else so. I mentioned it and she said she wouldn’t worry about it, there’s not enough on it that she’d be concerned but this has been constant now for 2 weeks, and according to dr google no amount of blood is normal?

any medical professionals who can advise? 🙏

Are you spotting at all? Could it be menstrual?

ChocHotolate · 23/05/2025 20:44

you should mention it to your GP. Ongoing haematuria in the absence of infection may require further investigation.

SwedishSayna · 23/05/2025 20:49

Not a doctor but you might have Gilberts syndrome. It's a harmless liver condition but causes small amounts of blood in the urine. Mine was picked up in the same way via testing for something else. You should get doctors to investigate.

Rickeeeeeeeeee · 23/05/2025 21:13

Do you have a coil?

Fatrollypolly · 23/05/2025 22:15

No coil or spotting.

as I say I did speak to the nurse and she said she wouldn’t be concerned by it at all and if I want further investigation they can send a sample off if I’m worried but she basically isn’t!

Get them to send a sample to put your mind at ease. I had this with visible blood for a while, was linked to recurrent utis

Fatrollypolly · 24/05/2025 12:18

@Imagineit probably a good idea as it is weighing on my mind now and making me worried. Every time I have a twinge down there I’m thinking it’s a tumour causing discomfort.

I do get recurrent UTI’s.

I’m sure that two or more incidences of blood in urine with or without UTI symptoms is enough for a referral on to urology for further investigation so if flag it with GP.

Fatrollypolly · 24/05/2025 12:36

@fourelementary i did a lot of digging on Google this morning and it says to class trace amounts as negative so it’s not actually classed as a positive dipstick. The nurse looked at a picture of my dipstick yesterday and said ‘that’s a trace amount I wouldn’t worry about that’ although I can’t find pictures showing what a trace amount of non-hemolyzed blood is on a dipstick.

I’ve just made my husband do a test 😂 and he had more blood showing than me.

I then got my daughter to do it as she had one tiny spot show up (less than me).

just to really be thorough and listen to my ocd 😂 I then used a bit of normal cervical mucous on it should mine be contaminated by that and it showed loads of hemolyzed blood (finished my period on Tuesday / Wednesday I think it was) and it looks clear to me.

so I’m not sure if this is potentially a normal finding in everyone’s urine (can anyone medical advise?!) and therefore it is technically negative and to be disregarded.

you can tell I’m overthinking this can’t you 😂

I thought orange with green bits on the test window is a lot of blood... on my dip sticks it is. What ones are you using?
