Reporting a vaginal gel cream

Hi,

I’m out of hospital with some link being made to Toxic Shock Syndrome.

I am a person who has never got on with tampons so a tampon left in is so far not applicable, neither was I having a period at the time and 24 hours after first taking the gel internally using the applicator (washing hands before using the applicator) came down with what I now know to be the flu type symptoms (feeling sick, sore throat lasting only hours, spaced out dizziness, confusion, shivering to sweating and feeling tired which started a horrible road to cellulitis in the lower leg and foot along with an alien ball of fluid.

I got the gel from a private consultant who did not check down below whom I saw with the intention of getting help with a small fibroid.

I would have had a uti/water infection at the start of April which had 3 days antibiotics from a high street chemist but thought nothing to get started on blissel on 22nd April… thinking I was clear.

I just would hate for any other women to land up in same position.

I did call the private consultant after event who said the gel was very safe and they understood if I would not want to risk continuing and that maybe I should get nhs gynae to pop along to the ward I was on to take a sample.

Whilst in hospital under Orthopaedics, I did find it odd they were treating me with women known reproductive part heavy antibiotics, when it came to the cellulitis, a lot of nasty stuff was seeping out from female region and on one occasion the care team looking unhappy with what they saw in the catheter bag but were not specific, when I then later had the catheter removed, there were little seedlings seen in the initial urine I was passing. I since read you can possibly get seedlings for fibroids.

I’ve not felt the usual fibroid movements (eg that whole nasty pelvic pressure, urine leaks I was complaining of prior for the past 2.5 years) it has just vanished and now a mention of low white blood cell count.

What do I do now. Take product to the chemist who sold it? Yellow card it. It does seem strange one dose of the gel went on to cause nearly so much havoc but I really don’t want to test it out again.

Could the small fibroid have been dying (high temperature at point of entry to A&E whilst the red leg was growing) and that helped cause a route of infection entry?

Sorry OP but none of this makes any sense. What have you been admitted to hospital with?

It’s ok I out of hospital now just feeling incredibly stupid and dealing with the after marth. TSS to me is when a teenager leaves a tampon in longer than they should.
But that doesn’t apply to me.

Just wish I could get comfy with my wounded foot and leg but to be honest I wasn’t comfy in the hospital either.

My family want to take it further with primary care why in March no one looked at me in an intimate way when all this really started instead of just quoting peri.

I’m glad the fibroid seems to have done one, long may it stay away. I’ve left all the support groups for fibroids. I’m not wanting to use the gel again in fear what it may have done so that’s easily dealt with.

Nothing from your uterus would be showing in a catheter bag, whilst close, it's not the same place.

I think you are probably over thinking this.

Streptococcus pyogenes (or S. pyogenes) TSS may occur as a secondary infection. Most commonly, this is seen in people who have recently had chickenpox, bacterial cellulitis (infection of the skin and underlying tissue), or who have weak immune systems.

You may have had TSS but it was likely a secondary infection as a result of the bacteria in the cellulitis

You possibly had thrush secondary to the antibiotics for your cellulitis.
