Post menopausal period type bleeding

I’ve been to the GP and on the two week wait pathway. Has a scan today, waiting for gynae appointment.

I’m six years post menopause, and have had two previous bouts of bleeding. They were spotting though, had investigations and all ok.

For the last six weeks I’ve had a period every other week. Rather worried, but trying to keep positive.

Given this is now the third time this has happened, will I be considered for a hysterectomy? Thinking about discussing it at my gynae appointment. Or will I neee to wait to see what the results from the hysteroscopy and biopsies are?

Urghhh the waiting is awful isn't it? You just have to wait for the results, one step at a time. My bleeding was a cyst and I had it removed last year. Hope all goes well and it's nothing sinister.

I was going to start a post saying similar! I was on the 2ww pathway and all was well thankfully. But I'm having another period now. GP appt Friday, will see what she says.

I've been bleeding every day for 8 months after a year of nothing. Likely a polyp in my case as I've had one before and there is something on my recent scan. Gynae just referred me for urgent hysteroscopy as I'm In agony every day. Also suggested gonadotropin drugs to induce menopause as my womb is so troublesome so I'm having a think about that but might wait to see how I am after polypectomy.
A hysterectomy is a last resort I would think.

Thanks for this. I too have had bi weekly bleeds, five years into HRT. I’ll ask for a hysteroscopy.

any bleeding after menopause needs a scan and investigation, likely hysteroscopy. Just to add for what it’s worth I found this a very straightforward procedure, I’ve had worse smears. Very good supportive team and it was clear that if I did experience pain they would immediately stop. In fact I had about ten seconds of ‘that’s a bit ouchy’ and rest was fine. Obviously endometrial cancer is a concern but if it is looking dodgy it can be very effectively treated.
hysterectomy is an option and if it’s cancer may be the treatment recommendation but if it can be avoided it is advisable as your uterus still has a supporting role for other structures around it even when you don’t use it anymore.

Hope you’re seen quickly and it is a polyp.

Yes I agree that hysterectomy is a last resort. I just feel that as I’m post menopausal and this is the third episode just take the thing out! I’m settled on HRT, have no use for a womb, just makes sense to me.

Please do, you need to be seen.

I went through many periods of post menopausal bleeding before they eventually gave me a hysterectomy. I had severe adenomyosis and the HRT made it worse. It’s horrible waiting, but try to remember that the cause is usually benign. It’s important that you do get checked, every time.

Ah I’d not thought about that @nhsmanagersanonymous, thank you.

I had my scan results today, all looks ok. Lining is 3.8 mms which is normal.
I’ve an appointment for HRT review, still waiting for gynae appointment though.

I had a gynae appointment on Tuesday. Hysteroscopy appointment booked for the 31st.
The gynaecologist was lovely, she advised to have the tests and determine the cause for the bleeds. If all ok then she will see me again in four months to discuss a hysterectomy given that this is the third time I’ve had these investigations.

I’ve been worrying this week, life in general is a bit overwhelming and this has been on my mind more.
