Bleeding every day - exhausted

Since my youngest was born 6 years ago I have bled pretty much every day. Light initially, more like spotting. I was due a smear which was clear. When it didn’t settle I was referred to gynaecology- scans, etc all clear.

Over the subsequent year it went from light to full heavy bleeds. Referred back to gyn and all tests again. All clear. I was fitted with the mirena which reduced the flow but not frequency.
It’s been 18 months since it was fitted and the last few months the bleeding has got heavier again. GP isn’t much help / I’ve suggested many times it must be hormonal but getting no where.
Anyone had similar?

Have you had blood tests? You're almost certainly anaemic if you're losing blood that regularly

TheMumEdit · 29/04/2025 21:25

Yes, and take iron regularly. All other tests such as thyroid clear.

What tests did you have?
I have had similar for the last five years…

I’ve had an ablation, only had it a few weeks ago so unsure if it’s been successful yet, has this been suggested for you?

Mine turned out to be a ruptured ovary. Bled nonstop for nearly a year despite being on the depo injection fortnightly and taking monthly zolodex injections. It wasn’t a little bit - it was like a heavy period every single day and night. I looked like a walking zombie to put it mildly.
it took having an absolute meltdown in front of a consultant who (to humour me) suggested he ‘took a look inside to prove all was normal via a laparoscopy’. He had blamed the fact that I was fat and unfit plus depressed as the roots of my bleeding.
Ended up with an apology and a zipper for a scar….

Isn’t ablation for endometriosis? I don’t have that. I had a hysteroscopy which showed no issues. All healthy it seems.

What a shame. Hopefully you have relief now. I’ve had internal checks so don’t think I have that. Pretty sure it’s hormones

@TheMumEdit It was years ago and I ended up with a radical hysterectomy a couple of years later (2007). Ultrasound scans didn’t pick it up.

Ahsheeit · 06/05/2025 08:53

If this was a different part of your body bleeding every day, then they'd bloody do something, not give you a fob off.

A hysteroscopy only looks inside the womb, so any bits of endometriosis that have escaped won't be seen. Time to tell your GP assertively that this is ridiculous, it's not normal to be bleeding every day, and you want someone to take this seriously and find out the why.

Only then can you have the right treatment. Look up the NICE guidelines for endometriosis and for continual vaginal bleeding. I'd find them, but I'm actually working and have taken a 2 minute break.

No, it just burns away the lining of the womb to attempt to stop any bleeding. I just had one done and don’t have endometriosis x

Ps, I also had two hysteroscopies and each time they were normal. I’ve been told my bleeding must be hormonal too. The ablation was offered after I tried the coil and that didn’t work x

When I had the Mirena coil, it made me bleed every day for 8 months until I had enough of it and had it removed. I didn’t have bleeding before, so I can’t comment on this aspect, but, personally, I would consider having it removed if it’s not helping after 18 months.
