Is having this pelvic exam essential?

I have suffered with abnormal baginal bleeding for years (I believe it’s endometriosis). To be referred beyond GP I’ve had to have blood tests, swabs, a transvaginal ultrasound.

The GP tried to do a bimanual exam and my god, the pain! I couldn’t do it. And I’ve felt uncomfortable ever since (2 days on) and weeing is uncomfortable.

The GP notes say they couldn’t do the exam due to discomfort. Does that mean I won’t be referred onwards? Ideally I want a laparoscopy to see if I have endo but I can’t go through that again.

No, you should still be referred on - the fact that you experienced so much pain during the examination is itself suggestive that there may be something going on. And abnormal bleeding always needs investigation.

It doesn’t mean you won’t be referred on.
