Alternative to Mirena for HRT use?

Evening all

Currently on 50mg Evorel patches with mini pill (originally just for contraception only but advised by GP a few years ago that I need it for progesterone side of HRT).

Night sweats since before Christmas are now horrendous so GP advised patches can be increased. However apparently mini pill isn’t actually licensed for HRT use 😳 although not been told this before.

Anyhoo I’m on a 3 month trial of combined patches (one 50 and one 25 to make 75) and pill still. However doc was quite insistent I should consider mirena to replace pill part of HRT.

Im 49 and have not changed my contraceptive for years and would prefer not to however the news that pill isn’t licensed a worry. So I get I need to look at alternatives. I’m really not keen on mirena as what I’ve read over the years and anecdotal stories do not sell it to me.

Doc didn’t seem to know of an alternative to. Mirena and 75mg Evorel … are there any?

Thanks.

Utrogestan tablets can be used for progesterone instead of Mirena

You’ve been given incorrect advice. I’m under two menopause specialist - one NHS and also under Newson, I’m 44 and on the mini pill and evorel conti patches. (Went into menopause at 37). Both specialists happy for me to continue with the mini pill forever. No issues. I will never have a coil.

I used Noriday as the progesterone part of my HRT for a while. Three tablets a day plus Evorel 75 patches. Unfortunately it was out of stock last time I went to collect my prescription so the GP prescribed Utrogestan which I really don’t like. I’m guessing you still need contraception because of your age.

I use Evorel 100 and then 12 days a month use 200mg utrogestan vaginal pessaries. I had mirena but side effects were too bad so have settled on this

I've actually found that the Mirena plus gel (I used Sandrena) were the most stable for me. I had to have my Mirena removed in November and thought I would try something else. Patches haven't agreed with me and Utrogestan/Sandrena combination and couldn't tolerate the Utrogestan. I'm now arranging to have another Mirena put in. I had no problem whilst it was in, it was just I naively agreed to have it fitted at the same time as a hysteroscopy and found it very painful so wasn't keen to have another one. I was also informed when I went on HRT by the menopause specialist that if you are classed as overweight the Mirena/gel option was the best for both your body and giving you some control over the dosage.
