Adenomyosis after ablation

Hi, just posting for advice on adenomyosis treatment if anyone can help!
I have had this diagnosed through an ultrasound because I have spotting for most of the month. My main problem though is back pain and not being able to go to the toilet so much of it feels like it’s in my back.
I’ve also had an ablation which I feel like in hindsight I shouldn’t have had as this just apparently makes the cells more trapped.
Recently, my gynaecologist hasn’t listened at all. I went in and said my symptoms are not heavy periods but are x,y and z and I do not want the coil as treatment. His response in a follow up letter was you have adenomyosis and the symptoms are likely heavy periods and the treatment is a coil. So not only did he not listen when I say I don’t have heavy periods because of the ablation, he didn’t listen to the fact I don’t want a coil. When I mentioned inability to go the toilet that was shrugged off as not connected.
I’m going to a different consultant soon and worried that they’ll say the same thing. My question is, would the mirena really shrink my uterus to the point where my back is no longer impacted? I’ve had an ablation so I don’t see how it could have that much of a positive impact and shrink to the point of taking away the back pain. I just feel like I want it all taken away but am I taking the easy option?
Any advice would be gratefully received!

I don’t see how your urine could be connected, unless you have read more widely than I have. I have adenomyosis and the coil helped reduce my bleeding hugely. My periods are still painful though so also not sure how useful a coil would be. I don’t know what other treatment there might be though? I have found it helps to go with the solution you want having researched it throughly.

Not urine. Sorry as in my back so I find it hard to pass stools. I don’t have heavy bleeding because of the ablation so I don’t need to reduce bleeding. I just need the back pain and problems to stop but their response is just blanket, “coil”. I just don’t see how it can help unless it massively shrinks the whole uterus.

I got told hysterectomy of the womb time.

I have tried a coil for fibroid and it did not work.

I'm in my early 40's and having babies is beyond me. Ladies parts in a mess.

Have you tried all the different nsaids, not just ibuprofen? I understand your concerns.

uselesseuphless · 24/04/2025 10:25

No I don’t tend to medicate it because it’s all the time. Just feel so completely full down there. I think a hysterectomy is the only option I just don’t know anything about it. And I’m just concerned they’ll carry on pushing the coil :(

I had uterine embolisation and it sorted the issue. I also had ablation then diagnosed with adenomyosis and couldn’t pass stools. I ended up hospitalised before I had the embolisation 😩.

It’s comforting to hear I’m not imagining it. What does a embolisation entail?

It’s done under sedation and they embolise the blood flow to the uterus through an artery in your groin. The pain immediately afterwards is pretty unpleasant but then no more periods! Woo hoo! It was life changing for me.

Thank you that’s really helpful :)
