Odd feeling after hysterectomy

MrsBantry · 21/04/2025 12:09

I had a hysterectomy in Aug 2024 and all was ok. I kept ovaries but lost uterus, fallopian tubes and cervix.

Occasionally I get a feeling like something is rubbing inside my vagina. A bit like the feeling you get when a dry tampon is not placed quite correctly.

Has anyone else experienced this after hysterectomy, particularly quite a long while after it? If so, did anything solve it?

Thank in advance for your feedback xxxxx

Could it just be the encroaching dryness of perimenopause/menopause? My first thought would be to try a good vaginal moisturiser. But also a gp appointment so they can examine you. Depending on what age you are and the indication for the hysterectomy, vaginal oestrogen or systemic hrt might help if it is dryness/thinning skin (it helped me)

i was going to suggest dryness too.
I had my total hysterectomy 6 years ago and haven’t felt anything vagina wise, although I wish I’d been offered some sort of moisturiser, I may not have developed LS last year if I’d know it was so common in meno, and that staying moisturised could help.

Thanks @candycane222 . I have been using vaginal estrogen and YES moisturiser but still getting this feeling unfortunately. This is why I'm wondering if it is to do with hysterectomy granulation tissue perhaps. The trouble is with this time of life the there are so many things that can happen at once!

I wonder it it’s the fake end of the vagina they make? How old are you OP?

Ah yes actually that rings a bell. Sorry, had completely forgot but pretty sure my dsis had granulation in a funny little spot after her hysterectomy - can't remember how she noticed it. I think she went back to the hospital to see the surgical team and they examined her and said that's what it was, and absolutely nothing to worry about. Pretty sure it isn't uncomfortable in her case though.

Anyway in your situation I'd get someone to examine me who is (literally and figuratively) in a better position to tell what is causing this feeling. Just because I'dwant to know!
