Damn tampons

Have always used tampax and more specifically tampax compak or satin as I found them easier to get in. The last year I just cannot do it. Have they changed or is it me? What am I doing wrong? Put it in, move the tube up and when I think it's ejected remove but is still in the holder. Argh!

The Compak ones have always been terrible for this (at least for me!). I also found the plastic holders a bit uncomfortable.

The Tampax ones in the cardboard holders are much more comfortable to use, as well as easier to apply and eject from the holder.

How old are you? If you are over 40, you might be perimenopausal and suffering early stages of vaginal atrophy.

If that's the case then ask for oestrogen pessaries.

If not, then try lube.

@TheeNotoriousPIG so weird they used to be great for me.

@FlowerUser entirely possible, I was more worried it was a prolapse or something stopping them going in but I have been checked for prolapse before and told I don't have one.

I have really struggled with Tampons in recent years. I have never got on with compak but even the cardboard ones which were my go to now don’t work for me.

I switched to a menstrual cup a couple of years ago and it’s honestly a revelation. I would recommend trying if you haven’t already.

I've always used ones without applicators

Gowlett · 16/07/2025 18:31

Got a box of Tampax, the ordinary ones I’ve been using since my teens. With the applicator. They’ve changed them!

The box now says “without plastic”. Also says “one push”

They are lying. Never had a problem before, now there is no glide at all, the tampon & applicator are much drier (as such) and sort of stick to your walls instead of just sliding in, as before.

I find LIDL own brand Lunex good, so I’ll be getting those in future. Boots aren’t doing their ones with an applicator anymore. Tesco ones were good too, must check they still do them.

I think they’ve changed the plasticy ones. It’s like you have to extend the thin end until you hear a click and only then can you insert it now?

Thats the best way I can explain it, sorry!

JazzyBBBG · 16/07/2025 20:37

Well going on holiday this week so can guarantee will need them!! Just hoping don't fall out!

Yeah I remember the click but haven't found them "clicking" so much as they used to.

I hate the new tampax! I moved to lillets and they are much much better!

TheChosenTwo · 16/07/2025 21:59

I’ve never gotten on with applicator tampons, just can’t figure the stupid things out!! Non applicator ones for me but the ones like torpedos as I bleed like I’m dying 🥴
Recently found myself needing to use sanitary towels instead of tampons for a bit, bought 3 different types and they were all fucking scented 😱 JUST WHY????

Gowlett · 16/07/2025 22:10

Scented towels, why indeed! Hate them!

The new Tampax are so frustrating, once I’ve managed to to finally to get in far enough into position (I think every woman probably has a sweet spot that feels comfortable & secure) then trying to get the dry applicator, that’s now glued to my walls, back out… It then pulls the tampon back out of position.
