Fibroid and bulky uterus

I had an ultrasound last week and found out I've got a large fibroid in my uterus and a bulky uterus. I've been experiencing lots of unmanageable heavy bleeding and more recently have had pain. I had the mirena coil but it looks like that must have come out as they couldn't see it on the scan. I'm currently waiting for the sonographer to send the report to the gp so I can find out the next steps. Does anyone have any experience of similar?

It depends on where exactly the fibroids is, whether it’s in the actual cavity, the muscle or outside of the uterus.

In my case I was referred to gynae.
They told me to try Mirena for the heavy bleeding- which was useless- they then insisted I try POP for 6 months. This again was useless as I just bled heavily, and continuously, for the whole time I took it.
They then recommended ablation for the heavy bleeding. I declined this as I knew the lining can grow back, and it wouldn’t resolve the pain.
All this had taken around 5 years because there was a wait of 9-12 months for every follow up appointment!
By this time I was desperate, as I could hardly leave the house some days due to the flooding and the pain made me vomit, so I begged for a hysterectomy.

If your fibroid is just inside the uterine cavity it could just be surgically removed via keyhole surgery. Depending on where you are in the country, & your area waiting list, it could be done within 4-6 months.

I had a huge uterine fibroid. It was discovered when I was pg with my DS fourteen years ago, and did not cause any problems until a few years ago. I started getting a lot of pressure symptoms, couldn’t bend properly, couldn’t lie on my front etc. I had a uterine artery embolisation, where they block off blood supply to the fibroid. The symptoms improved, although the fibroid didn’t shrink. But I then started HRT, and everything went downhill… Not only did they fibroid start to grow, but I had the most horrific bleeding, eventually ending up in A&E with anaemia. I had a hysterectomy last Monday.
They should refer you to a gynaecologist who will discuss your treatment options with you - please don’t suffer in silence!

Thank you for your responses, I don't know anyone irl who's had this so it's good to hear how it worked out. It's in the muscle wall I think so it will likely need surgery of one sort or another as it's 8cm. I hope the waiting list isn't too long- now I know what's causing my symptoms I just want it gone.
