Bleeding between period for 10 months

Hi,

I’ve been bleeding between periods since June 2024 (last baby born via C-section in Nov 2023).

Other symptoms include:

Painful sex
Constipation
Bloating
Bleeding during/after sex
Fatigue

I have had ultrasound, swabs, hysteroscopy with biopsy. All have come back clear. Smear due Nov 2025 and doctors aren’t bringing it forward.

The bleeding inbetween is heavier than my actual period and more painful.

My consultant has said she can check for endometriosis but it can grow back so maybe no point? She has said it’s hormonal bleeding and I can solve it with mirena coil.

Has anyone else had this and the doctors missed anything? There’s just something within me that feels like there’s something wrong and because I’m so young, I feel doctors are all telling me it’s not possible.

Sorry to hear you are going through this. I am in a similar situation with excessive bleeding, waiting on my hysteroscopy at the moment but feel like they just want to shove a Mirena in and forget about it. I don't have other symptoms though- if you are really worried, could you push for more investigations? Or failing that, go private? If you are really worried it is worth it, they can miss things.

I do think this kind of thing just gets dismissed though, women's health is never a priority. The first time I met my Gynaecologist she was so dismissive and said she couldn't understand why I was bothered about bleeding 3 weeks every month! She made me cry, she had no empathy at all, and that was a woman and expert in the field!

If you have endometriosis, it may not show up on a scan. The only way to know for sure is to have investigative surgery.

I had stage 4 endo for 25 years, with all the symptoms you mention at various times. The mirena actually made it worse - it caused me to bleed more. The pill had no effect on it. The only thing that worked for me was surgery - I had seven ops including a hysterectomy that eventually fixed everything.

I mention all of this to say that:

a) yes, endo does sometimes grow back, but surgery will alleviate your symptoms, probably for years

b) endo doesn’t always show up on scans

c) the coil may help but it’s not guaranteed- if you don’t want it for any reason, don’t feel pressured into having it

If you’re anywhere near London and you can afford it, I can recommend a couple of good gynae consultants who do private work.
